From a very young age, I knew my Dad's best friend had been injured in 'the war'. I studied the man at length, and very innocently deduced that he must have swallowed a grenade to keep all his fellow soldiers safe. It wasn't until I was about 12 years old that I realized he just had an enormous beer gut.

I used to believe that people in that past really were black and white...like in those black and white pictures, you know?
I thought that the color portraits must have been science fiction back then.

I used to think that the evolution of species included the transition from the "big, fancy white hair" of Federalist justices/presidents/etc. (pre-Jefferson) to our current bald, sometimes dark-haired politicians. I thought it had become genetically impossible to have those luxurious white locks.

As old pictures of my grandma and mum were in black and white, when I was like 3 I used to believe that the world was colourless once.

I used to believe that a long, long time ago, everything in the world was white and black and one day, God decided to color everything, and rainbows were his crayons.

That's what happens when you make your kids watch old black and white films.

I once believed that the world was jus black and white, from watching on a black and white tv. And some-where’s near the high 80's someone invented colour and painted the whole world, and then we had all these wacky colours around us. We so silly....

When I was little, I was afraid of planes flying over the house, because I thought that WW2 was still going on and the Nazis were going to bomb my house. No matter how many times my parents reassured me that WW2 was over, and Germany never invaded/bombed the U.S., I was still afraid for at least a few months.

When I was a little kid I saw a black and white show, and I asked my mom why there was no color. She said "Because they didn't have color back in those days." I assumed that she meant that everything right down to trees and grass was a shade of gray! I belevied this for probably over a year then I got that issue cleared up :)

I used to believe that when the term guerilla warfare was mentioned, it was apes, monkeys, and gorillas fighting it out! They'd be out there, with rifles, guns etc. I thought it so odd....

When I was little I believed that someone invented color. You know that's how T.V. got to change from black and white. So I asked my mother, "Who invented color, he must have been really smart?" I haven't been slapped so hard since.

When I was five or six, the United States was engaged in the First [Persian] Gulf War. However, in general conversation my parents only ever referred to it as the "Gulf War" which led me to believe that the United States was fighting Saddam Hussein in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Florida. I was deathly afraid that Saddam and Company were going to invade the United States and enslave us all.

I use to watch a lot of black and white shows, and I thought that in the past everything was black and white (it makes sense, right, old photos were in black and white too!). I was about 9 when I asked my mom when they invented color..

I used to believe that color was a recent invention. When I saw old news films, they were always in black and white. Since news films from my day accurately showed the colors as they appeared I thought old news films captured things exactly as they appeared then.

I used to think that the old black and white movies meant that people didn't see in color back then. That up until color tv came into play that everyone saw in black and white.

When I was young we would hear about the Gorillas fighting in South America against the armies on the radio and I always picture in my head armies of gorillas with helmets and guns fighting armies of people.

When I was about 6 I once asked my mom when the world was going to change color again? She didn't understand what I meant so I explained to her that when you watch old movies and pictures the world used to be black and white. Now it changed to this colorful world and was wondering when it would change again.
