i use to believe that old people lived in a real black and white world like on tv...one time i asked my dad what it was like when everything was black and white and when everything changed to color.

I was born in the 80s, and when I was young I thought that when tv shows/movies were in black & white that was how the whole world was, and colors weren't invented until the 60s, when color tvs appeared.

When I was four years old there was a great deal in the news about Cuba and about guerilla warfare and guerilla troops and guerilla tactics. To my backwoods, mountain-bred (Ouachita Mountains, on the Arkansas/Oklahoma state line) ears, this sounded like gorilla warfare, gorilla troops, etc. I listened, silently wondering for months how they were able to train the apes to use machine guns and machetes. Imagine my dismay when I finally asked my mother how the training was accomplished and the difference in gorilla and guerilla was explained to me.

It was years before I got over the embarrassment felt when my assumption came to light, (truthfully, it still niggles at me more than a bit.)

To end on a lighter note... although I am now 46 and cognizant of the difference in a guerilla and a gorilla, I still picture the ape when I hear the fighter described.

— Tena C.the past : wars

Being young and naively honest, I didn't realize that war was based on deception: The suprise attack-the deception that there is no plan to attack. I thought that the war chiefs would call each other and arrange a meeting time for their soldiers to fight each other. Along with this was the belief that they had to use a vacant field as a battleground. This was how my mind made sense of the question, "How do they know when and where to fight?"

This is actually a common belief among children. But, when I was little, I used to believe that the Cival War was called the Silver War.

I used to believe that the world used to be black and white in the olden days as all the pictures of the olden days were on the tv in black and white. I was born in the age of colour tv and it didn't occur to me that they didn't have colour pictures.

I once thought that the world used to be black-and-white, before color was invented. This was evidenced by old black-and-white movies. My dad set me straight when he pointed out that dinosaurs were in color.

I am a decendant of Peter Wentz. One time George Washington used his house as head quarters in the Battle of Germantown. When I was little I always imagined Gerge Washington sleeping on Peter Wentz's couch in the living room. And that couch in my mind looked a lot like this old Victorian davenport my grandparents owned.

When i was little i thought the mathamatican Archimedes, was named arquimedes because when i watched the movie sword in the stone i thought that's what they said.
