When i was young, Operation desert Storm was going on. I never watched the news, but i always heard this one guy's weird name: "Saddam Who's Saying."
I asked my mom one day when he would shutup and stop the war, and she laughed till she cried...but it wasnt really that funny...

Before I was old enough to understand the terminology behind the phrase "World War", all I saw was an image of the entire globe covered in people fighting each other. It just seems a little bit weird to see two soliders trying to shoot each other off the very highest peak of Mount Everest. Stranger still, I though that World War I was the first round of the fight, and that World War II was the second half. A bit like a football match, only with more violence.

When I was 7 years old I heard a news report about the Vietmnm cease fire, and I thought the reporter said "Sea Spyer" and I thought that the "Sea Spyer" was a secret agent on a ship.

When i was young i believed because of news reports of guerilla warfare that monkeys (gorrilas) where at war.Guess i must have watched too much planet of the apes.

Confused after learning of the Civil War, I asked my mom what "civil" means. She said it was where people were nice to each other. So I pictured the Civil War as a period where people were always smiling, shaking hands, complimenting each other, etc. I justified the "war" part of the phrase by the idea that it was a niceness competition, and they thought "war" sounded cooler than "competition". Needless to say, I failed the test... and got really mad at my mom for telling me false information. It took me a while to staighten it out.

When I was about six or maybe seven or eight I had started to learn about slavery and for some reason I thought that around the year 1995 there would be an uprising of racists that would bring slavery back and that me and my mother would be made slaves and she would get beaten all of the time or maybe even killed and then I would be all alone and then I would get beaten. These thoughts plauged me until I learned about the Constitution.

I used to believe the world was all black and white until someone invented color.

When i was a kid and was shown black and white photo's of my mum and dad and grandparents etc, i used to think that the world was in black and white too!!
And the world had only come into colour recently!!!
They did laugh when i asked them what the world was like "before colour"!!!

When I was little I remember hearing on the news how Arab guerillas attacked Israel (I was too scared to actually sit and watch the news on the TV). I litterally believed that these were wild man-eating gorillas sent by the Arabs to attack Israel.

Fom watching black and white movies, I decided that the real world must have been black and white before someone discovered colour. I thought it must have been boring in those days, and was thankful to be growing up in the 80s!

When I'd see a black and white movie on TV, I'd always wonder when people started being "in color."

When i was young, in the mid eighties, I believed that the world used to be black and white, until they invented color television sets.

My grandparents built a bombshelter in their garden during the 2nd World War.When I was a child, I was terrified of it, because I believed that there were rotten remains of dead soldiers from the war in there.I do not where I got the idea from.My grandparents actually never used the shelter for anything else, but to store their jars of homemade jam.

Based on a line in the Star-Spangled Banner, I used to think that wars were fought by each side firing cannons at one another's flags. Whoever's flag was obliterated first was the loser. That's why Francis Scott Key was so happy that his flag was still there in the morning.

I used to believe that in the past, the world was in black and white, or at least sepia-toned, like the old movies and photos in Life magazine. Only recently, when the History Channel has been showing documentary footage of World War II in color, have I realized that I used to think this. Hitler and his cronies ought to have gray skin, don't you think?

I used to believe: that when TV was black and white, it was because the world was black and white. so when TV went colour, I assumed it was because the world had switched too.

I used to believe that the whole world was black and white, since all the photos were. Then one day they miraculously turned to colour. I couldn' explain why but they did.

I used to believe…

the most nostalgic moments of life were when my friends and i played all evening on the lawn, and the sun was setting, creating an orange luminescence in the sky. i temporarily believed that the orange sky was the result of our high levels of fun. it was quite difficult to achieve.

When I was very young, probably about six or so, my father told my younger sister and I that he had been a Ranger in Vietnam. Until I was in my second year in college, I had this mental image that he was one of the people that made sure that the two sides “played nice” and that he made sure that the animals in the jungle weren’t hurt.

It was a bit of a shock to finally figure it out...
