The world was black and white before colour photographs and colour TV

Like in one Calvin and Hobbes comic, my dad told me that the pictures that are black and white are in color, but the WORLD was black and white. A few years later, I went out to a film shop. I was shocked to see black-and-white film there.

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought the whole world was in black and white because all the pictures I'd seen of my parents were in B&W. =)

Not as dumb as I thought

When i was little and saw black and white photos, i thought that the world had no colour 'back then' and that colour was invented and then added to everything.

I used to believe from watching old movies that the entire world was black and white until the 1950s or so.

until I was about 8 or 9 I believed that all movies filmed in black and white actually represented how the world looked. that everything in the world before the dawn of color film actually existed in black and white.

when my son was little, he asked me if I used to live in a castle when I was a girl and if everything in the world was in black and white.
I also told my children I was 21 on every birthday for about 10 years.
