One day, when is was a kid, at a big family reunion, i was looking at my cousin's cricket gear & naming all the equipment. e.g. Bat, pads, gloves etc, until i saw a small plastic curved thing which i picked up & proudly announced in front of my entire extended family, that this thing covers the nose & mouth, which i then did. To my complete surprise & horror, absolutely everyone cracked up laughing at me because it was in fact a "box" which protects the batsman's genitalia area getting hit by the ball during the game of cricket!
When I was a kid I found out Hitler was an artist. I could not believe he was an artist. Artists are colourful creative people and they dont look like that.

I used to believe that tiny men lived in shop tills and decided how much each item should cost. I thought that bar codes were their own special language.
I used to belive that Switzerland was at the centre of the world, (because it had the highest moutains, of course!), that all the countries were packed around it, with England on the edge, which of course led to the Atlantic Ocean - the biggest ocean in the world!

I used to think Indian women had scabs on their foreheads, but it was bindi!
When I was little, I used to think that CDs (certificates of deposit) were the same as the CDs that you listened to. I always heard my parents talking about them and so I thought they would invest the CDs they had in the bank or something. When I got a CD for Christmas one year, I thought that my parents took care of the banking part of it for me. It was a while before I figured out the difference between the two.

When I was young I thought Canada was a city. I used to ask my mother if we could visit Canada, even though I was living in it.
I used to believe volleyball was actually called bally ball...which I STILL thinks makes more sense, as aren't you hitting a ball?
I used to believe that if u dig a hole in the dirt that you would come out in China
I used to believe that all Republicans were Protestants and all Democrats were Catholic.
when i was a child, i used to believe paper notes (money), once become crumpled or soaked wet, would be unacceptable and unuseable. well, mom gave me and my sister (younger than me yet infinitely wiser) a $5 bill one day after school to go get some groceries, I dropped it in the gutter and it was promptly soaked with rain water. my sis picked it up and said it's ok, use it, i grabbed it from her and chucked it out the window, which got blown away immediately. my sis saw such horror on my face, not because she thought I did such a stupid thing as throwing away good money, but that I made it wet in the first place!
I used to belive, that USSR is the best country in the World...:(
when I was beginning to learn about cricket I thought the batsman at the bowlers end was there to hit the ball away from the stumps if the facing batsman hit it straight back down the pitch.
I remember being told as a child that people in China (being on the other side of the world and opposite us, I assume) ate their dessert first. I don't recall if I REALLY actually believed this or not.
I remember believing that when you were flying that the borders of states and the states names would be visible from the air - just like it looks on a map.
I remember as a small child I used to beleive that England was the whole world. I remember my brother looking at me bemused when I asked what that bit on the bottom of the map of England was.

The first time that I went to Spain on holiday when I was 7, I thought everyone purchased things with potatoes. Then dad told me they were pesatas.
I used to ride my bike so that I could be seen clearly from the road. I thought I was an excellent bike rider and it was just a matter of time before some professional bike scouts would see me out riding and think, "Hey, that girl's got real talent." Of course, I would have to leave my family behind and train day and night in the sport of bike riding, but that was a sacrifice I was willing to take. Never happened. Could be because I lived on the outskirts of a VERY small town and there were no bike riding scouts there.
i was always fascinated by the receipts given by ATM machines. one day, my brother told me that if you could get the receipts out of the tiny containers people put them in, and took them to the bank, then the bank would give you the amount of money shown on the docket. i was excited for 15 mins, thinking i would make our family rich, until i jammed my fingers in the container.
