I used to believe that, when I was playing soccer at the yard or at the street (a very common practice in the neighbourhood)the national soccer team couch would see me from his helicopter (?????)and I could be called to join the national team and participate in the World Cup.

When I used to ask people where they were going on holiday as a child they used to tell me they were going abroad. I grew up thinking that abroad was the name of a popular holiday destination in France.
This is kind of a fitting statment i think. I remeber being around 12 and watching the olypics, when the power lifting came on. We were watching the various events, when my mother reffered to one of them as "The Cleveland Jerk", obviously she was in fact reffering to "The Clean & Jerk" - I wonder how many years she had been calling it that.
i used to believe that my brother lived at the bottom of my sand pit. He actually lived in Australia, but my dad told me that if i could dig all the way through the the sand, then the earth itself, i'd actually come out in Australia, and i'd be able to see my brother. I spent many an afternoon digging and digging, but i never found him.

already at the age of five i was disgusted by the lack of fairness and logic in the grown-up world.
f.ex. i had discovered that a lotery ticket did not guarantee getting anything, although you had paid for it!
so i organised a little lotery in my street with free tickets and prizes for every ticket:)
i had to part with many of my toys this way, but thought i had showed the world how things should be done...
The maps where they put all of the continents out flat really threw me off. I thought that all of the continents [1/4 of the globe] were on one side and the other side was all ocean [3/4 of the globe]. That's where all the desert islands were, and that's why is was so hard to get to china
I used to think that Berkeley (California, that is; my home town) and America were the same place. When we went to see relatives in Minnesota, I asked my parents, "When are we going back to America?"
When I was six I joined the local football (soccer) team. I knew we had red shirts, but when the first match I was to participate in arrived everybody put on blue shirts. Of course this was because the other team had red shirts as well. Because I had only been to one practice session and really didn't know or remember anybody since I was very shy (I still have a slight problem with names and faces for some reason), I thought the blue shirt meant that I had ended up on the wrong team. Being a little unsure if this was the case, and worried that I might let my actual team mates down, I kept a very low profile on one of the wings, making sure to stay away from the ball at all times, so I wouldn't make anyone mad by putting the ball in the wrong goal, which could be either one.
I used to think the bank was a money factory where anyone could go and get free money if they needed it.
I also used to think that if you didn't have enough money to buy something at a store, you would get change.

I used to believe that Paradise was the capital of France, and that when we died, we would all go to Paris.......just a tiny mix-up.
I come from a very large family and I am the youngest. I used to believe that when my older Brothers & Sisters were going out "To Play", I honestly thought there was a place called "Play" that they all ventured to and it was some sort of fantasy land and I wanted to be a part of it..
Was I wrong and disappointed!!
At age 5 I believed Monopoly money was real. I remember feeling stupid and embarassed when the the man at the corner shop laughed at me when I tried to buy sweets with it.
Up to about 14yrs I used to think that Welsh people where called "Waleish" as in Scottish, Irish and English.............my relatives (in Wales) never lived it down

when i was 4 my mom told me we lived in Indiana and i would tell people we lived in Diana
I thought the President of the US was like the King of the World, and because he was America's president he would have to be good. After all, America was good. He always was and would always be President. Then people started complaining about him (Nixon)and saying how he did bad things, and I thought "How could this be? He's President of America and America is good." Then they started talking about imnpeachment, and I thought they were talking about peach-mint ice cream!
When I was five or six, we moved to Devon from Manchester, and to make it more appealing, my father told me it never rained in Devon and that ice-cream was free. When we were packing I told my mother to leave my coats as I wouldn't need them. I was so cute then.

When i was younger, i used to think that all golf courses were called Green Fees, i never realised that it meant anyone could play.
I used to believe until a couple of months ago that Bulgaria was a fictional country, because that was where the horrible king and queen lived in the film 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'.
when we used to watch the tennis on t.v. every time someone served a fault and there was a beep i thought the player swore and it had been edited out.
it wasn't until i said how bad one players language was that i was corrected amid much laughter.
I used to look at baseball games in summer in the States, and it were years before I understood that the players did NOT bat in order of who was the best on the team down to the worst -- I assumed the best fellow led off cos my favourite player did, of course!
