When I was three my family moved to a place called Black Rabbits. I looked all over the place for those rabbits but I never saw them.
Finally I said something about it in front of my parents and they laughed, and we drove down the lake to the place where the RAPIDS were, and they pointed out the sign that said Black Rapids. (Yes, I could read when I was three.) They explained that rapids were a place where the water in the lake moves fast through a narrow spot, and I got the idea.
Still, for at least a little while, whenever we drove past or boated through the rapids I would imagine that I could see the rabbits swimming in the choppy water.

The first line of Canada's nation anthem is "O Canada our home and native land." When I was young I thought that every country in the world used Canada's national anthem but they'd just substitute "Canada" for whatever their country's name was.
In 3rd grade we were given an assignment to write about what we'd do if we'd won $10,000. I had grand plans about traveling the world, owning a fleet of airplanes and cruise ships, living in mansions with servants and never having to work again.
I thought you could vote as many times as you want, not just once.

I assumed that if a football player was hurt badly enough to have to leave the game, their team would get to win automatically--it seemed only fair.
I used to believe that money was just a verification of wealth, and you only had to show a shopkeeper that you had the money to pay for something, and they would give it to you. So, the first time I payed for something on my own when I was five or six, I showed the shopkeeper five pounds (I live in the UK), grabbed my item, and turned to leave. He wasn't best pleased, but I was adamant that I had payed! In the end, my Nan gave him the money, and I couldn't understand why she was just giving it away! I thought money was like a passport for buying things, and it seemed silly just to give it away! After all, you wouldn't just give your passport away!

I used to think that everything sold for the exact price it cost to make it. I didn't comprehend that anyone would be aiming to make a profit on anything.
I live in Quebec, Canada and when I was 8 years old there was the referendum and all the adults were talking about it. I thought that if Quebec seperated from Canada, they would literally take a jackhammer and detach Quebec from the rest of Canada along the border lines and we would float into the ocean.
I thought break dancing involved actually breaking stuff!
I used to think that bowling pins were arranged in a straight line, due to the angle at which you could see them at the end of the lane.
