I used to think there was a platinum medal in the Olympics that was better than a gold medal. (I still kind of wonder why there isn't one)

I thought Battersea was called that because it was built right next to the sea and got battered by the waves. Later when I learned about the Battersea Shield I thought it was like a giant wall they built at the seaside to shield the city from the waves!

When I was about 4 or 5 my mom told we were going to visit my aunts and uncles that lived in Wales. I pictured them all living inside the stomaches of actual whales. I was very confused when we arrived at a normal house instead.

When I was little my mom would always say if California sunk Puerto Rico would become the 50th state. I used to believe that meant that Puerto Rico would be picked up and moved to where California was.

The first place I ever saw fireworks was Disneyland. When I saw the 4th of July fireworks in my town, I shouted "Disneyland! Disneyland's over there!" My mom tried to prove me wrong, but I was convinced that Disneyland was somehow picked up and moved into the hills in the distance where the fireworks were shot from.

When I used to hear things on the news like "Terrorists are a serious threat to the peace and security of the world" I wondered what was so bad about people who travelled to other places on vacation (tourists).

I thought that socialism just meant being social and didn't get why anyone would be against it!

When I was a kid I believed that there were two parts to the world, existing side by side - Eden and the part that God created, and the rest of the world, which came about by evolution. Only in a child's mind could those beliefs exist together! (I no longer believe in evolution.)

I used to think that if I dug deep enough I would end up in Australia as it was right under us. I spent many summers trying!

Not me but my mom knew someone who didn't realize when people talk about "The Government" paying for something it meant with tax money. Apparently he thought the Government just had a unlimited amount of money just sitting around or something! What a maroon..

When I was younger, I would hear about the war and people being killed in different cities. I always remembered the city Baghdad, though, because I thought that people were saying "Bad Dad". I thought Bad Dad was a place in California (A very far away place at the time) where all of the mean Dads were sent. I always hoped that my dad wouldn't be sent there, even though he was nice.

I used to think that there were more UN-Discovered places on the other side of the Map.
(And I would not tell this to anyone and discover them myself, for fame & money)

When I was young and I had a placemat of the united states, I believed that the reason there were 50 states was that in every state people had different culture, looked different, and spoke a different language.

Before I knew about voting I thought a president was picked as so: the old president would have everyone in the country go to this HUGE building where he would stand on a stage at ask "ok, who wants to be president?" and anyone who wanted to be would raise their hands and the old president would pick one at random and they would be the new president!

For along time I thought the Middle East and Eastern Europe were just different names for the same place!

I remember as a kid I was totally confused by the trays they somtimes had a stores that had money in them and said "give a penny, take a penny". I thought it meant you should put a penny in it and then take another one out and I didn't get the point of it.

I used to wonder why they didn't fix the Leaning Tower Of Pisa. Weren't they embarrassed that it was crooked?
