When I was too young to understand the concept of a nationality, people still asked me, "Where are you from?" I didn't understand what they meant, so I just answered the most logical way I could--the most recent place I had left. "I'm from my house/the school/the market/etc..." Sometimes the timing was bad and I would have to answer, "The loo."

When I was a kid I overheard my mother's friend say that her husband had gone to work in the Gulf. At the time I imagined that this involved playing golf on a massive golf course in the desert.

i watched a lot of football with my dad when i was really little. he spoke with a chinese accent and whenever someone dropped the football, he would get really excited a shout. it wasn't until much later that i realized that instead of shouting "PHONE BALL!!" I used to believe that each country is on its own Earth. Therefore there were more than one Earths. And to travel internationally meant planet-hopping from one Earth to the other.

My family has always gotten wall calenders that contain both American and Canadian holidays. For years I remember seeing December 26th as "Boxing Day (Canada)" and thinking that meant instead of celebrating Christmas on the 25th, all Canadians went to a big boxing match on the 26th. I felt sorry for all the Canadian kids because I thought boxing was really boring. I'm still not sure what Boxing Day is, but I know it's not THAT.

In 1995 (I was 8) President Clinton and the Republicans in Congress were fighting over the budget, and I heard on the news that if they couldn't agree on one, the federal government would shut down. I thought that meant the government would cease to exist, the country would descend into anarachy, and we would have to move to Britain or somewhere. Then the government really did shut down, but it only meant a few offices were closed.

When i was younger i got 2 dollars a week for allowance. my dad sometimes ran out of 1 dollar bills so he gave me a 5 and took 3 of mi dollars. that made me so angry. i didnt know much about money or math so i just thought my dad was stealing from me.

I remember not understaning why, when my parents paid for something with a credit card, the cashier gave the card back to them. I had thought a credit card was something like a plastic dollar bill.

When I was little my parents would always tell me to finish my food because there are starving people out in Euthanasia. So growing up, I thought Euthanasia was a place where hungry people live.

I used to believe that in football (soccer) the object of the game was to get the goalkeeper to fall down. Needless to say I wasn't very good at it then!

When I was about 6 , I had a Mary Lou Rhetton gymnastics outfit, and I believed that if I practised hard enough with it on, that somone might see me through the window and let me compete in the olympics someday . I don't why it involved the window but it was very important.
