I thought when I was a kid that people just went to the bank to get money, like it was simply a money source. I was always so confused as to why my parents would complain about having no money.

When my sister and I were young we would pester our parents for a McDonalds but the only reply we got was: "Sorry, we don't have McDonalds money". For a while I believed that there were coins bearing Ronalds face.

When my mom was little--six or seven--she had a friend of the same age. My family is Armenian, and my mom's friend is a Wonderbread American girl.

So, at dinner one night, my mom's friend asked her parents,

"Mom, Dad, if Vicky is OUR-menian, are we HER-menian?"

Forty five years later, she still loves that story.

I used to believe that Celtic had an age-old rivalry with Queens Park Rangers.

Imagine my humiliation when, at the age of 20, and pretending to know about football, I had to be informed that there was a Glasgow Rangers. And that Celtic did not have a (frankly weird) thing against the London club QPR.

I live near a beach and when I was little we'd go down to the beach almost every day. There's an island nearby, and when I was little I'd look out over the water and think that island was England.

When I visited my cousins in California I saw another island off the beach and desided it was Japan. On the way back I reasoned it couldn't be Japan, Japan's too far away. It must have been Hawaii.

He was always talking aboutliving in 'old mexico' for awhile when he was in his teens. I always thought he said that to differentiate it from the state new mexico. Imagine my suprise (and disbelief) when I found out that my 40 YEAR OLD husband said 'old' mexico because he thought that it was a state, like north and south dakota, east and west virginia there was old and new mexico not just the country of mexico!

I used to believe that there was one of me in each country around the world, and if I was patient enough, I would eventually meet up with them. I couldn't wait to meet the French version of me, the Chinese me, the Mexican me...

When my sister was little, my father would always talk about what a dirty crook Nixon was. She thought he was an a crook like a burglar and was scared that Nixon was going to break into their house at night and rob them.

I always thought that Hawaii and Alaska were next to each other, just a little bit below, Texas because on Maps they always put them next to each other! I couldn't figure out how two states so close to each other could have such drastically different climates!

For the longest time (maybe until I was 10 or 11) I could have sworn that there was a 3 dollar bill. I thought I had remembered seeing one and then I never saw one again. I don't know why or where I thought I saw this, but it stuck with me.
