When I was younger, every year on the fourth of July, my dad would ask me to help him put the flag up on the front of our house. My father is a civil war buff, and because of that, we had been to Gettysburg many times by the time of this particular incident and I knew about Lincoln and was particularly fascinated by him because he was talking in the wax museum. :-O Anyway, I was helping my father, and I drooped the flag a bit too low. He said to me "Don't droop the flag, you'll make Lincoln angry!" All I could picture in my head was a giant Lincoln head in the sky, steaming from his ears, yelling obscenities commanding the Union Army to attack me because I drooped the flag. I never helped my dad again.

I used to think that cashback meant that the supermarket gave you free money back. So if your shopping was less than £50 you could get your shopping free and get some extra money on top.
It was only a few years ago that I was told that the money actually comes out from your account.

I thought that in Hawaii, the water fountains dispensed pineapple juice. For free!!! I wanted to go there just to get all the free pineapple juice I could drink. (Wasn't there an episode of the Brady Bunch or some other TV show where this happened?)

I believed that Spanish people were cats.
Oh yes, it made perfect sense at the time.
One day, my dad invited one of his work friends (who was spanish) round to our house. The man had brought his cat. When the man came into the room where I was, his cat was standing next to him, so when my father said, "Look, this is my friend Manuel, he's spanish!" and pointed towards the man and his cat, I thought dad was gesturing towards the cat.
A year later, I started to learn spanish. Each day I would find a cat and try to speak to them in their own language: Spanish
I still have had no success communicating with the spaniards.

These beliefs aren't mine, but of my friends. They are TERRIBLE at geography. They believe that New England is in Europe. They believe that South Africa is just a general region and not a country. Worst of all, they think there are 52 states in the US. Whenever I tell them that there are only 50, they tell me that I forgot Alaska and Hawaii. Their lack of knowledge of the states became apparent when one of my friends made a project which involved "taking a bridge from Florida to California." For the uninitiated: they're on different ends of the country. He didn't do so well on that project.

Chinese, French, German, English, Clownisian.
When I was 4, these were some of the world's nationalities. Chinese people in China, French people in France and Clowns in Clownisia. This was obviously the truth at the time.

I believed (up until I was married) that the Washington Redskins were an NFL team from Washington state. My husband must have thought I was an idiot when it finally dawned on me that they are from Washington, DC. The sad thing is that I live in West Virginia which isn't too far from DC.

I used to believe that the term "401(k)" reffered to how much money was in the account - $401,000. This belief was further strengthened when I saw an article talking about "how to stop your 401(k) from turning into a 200.5(k)."

when i was little i thought that "play ball" was part of the national anthem... because that's always what they say at baseball games.. "o'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave... play ball!"

I used to believe that you could dig a hole or walk to China. I'd dig holes in my sandbox all the time, but I always got bored. Whenever I got mad at someone in my family, I'd say "well I'm running away to China!" and I'd walk probably 2 house lengths at the most and then get scared that Chinese people were gonna come and kidnap me and take me to China so I'd go home.

When I was young, I thought Monopoly money was real money so I'd sneak into the game closet and steal it out of the Monopoly box and hide it in my dresser. My mom found the stash after a few weeks and asked me what the heck I was doing with half the Monopoly money in my room. I nervously told her I was saving up for a pony.

She laughed at me until I cried.

Untill I was 7 or eight I had never seen a globe so I thought Alaska and Hawaii were right next to each other. One day I asked my teacher how come Alaska was so cold and hawaii was not. The next day she broght a globe in and showed me where alaska and hawaii really were.
