I used to believe that when I got a NEW pair of shoes that I could run faster. Man was I upset when I went to school and the gym teacher tested my running time and said that I was the same. I told her, 'But I got new shoes'. She snickered and told me that the shoes do not make you faster....

I used to hear on TV all the time about the "government", and think it was an actual person who was even more important and powerful than the president, except nobody actually saw him or knew his name.

I used to hear on TV all the time about "paradise" and think it was the name of an actual island somewhere, that looked just like Hawaii or something.
I used to believe that America was actually the entire world and that people from every state spoke a different language. People from Ohio (where I grew up, of course) spoke English. I was always confused as to why my grandparents who lived in Illinois spoke English...I guess I figured that they moved from Ohio.
When i was about 5 or 6 my grandfather would take me and my brother to bury a penny. He told us that it would turn into a dollar, and what do you know, every time we went back a couple of days later, there would be a dollar. He really had us going for a couple of years.

You know when you watch/listen to/read the news and there is a report saying a man was robbed at gunpoint, or a bank was held up at gunpoint, meaning the criminal was using a gun. Well I used to think gunpoint was a place and kept thinking, "If all these bad things happen here, why does anyone ever go there. With all this crime going on you would think all the residents would have left by now."
I used to think that the Night Safe outside a bank did what the cash machine, or "hole in the wall", does: that you could stick a note in it (presumably with your name and bank details) and get money out. Thus, I was ahead of my time, as I was a small child in the late 1970s/early ‘80s, in the days before "holes in the wall"!
Digging in the dirt was one of my favorite activities when I was little and I thought I could dig to China if I tried hard enough, until one day my parents told me that it was impossible to dig to China. I then decided I'd make my digging goal more realistic by trying to dig to Canada instead.
I am almost 16 and up until a week ago.. i believed that the united states of america was it's own continent in between north america and central america.... yea... i suck!!

When we were kids we used to do football quizzes about the english football league. Every now and again the question 'Who is the only non english team to win the FA Cup? The answer is Cardiff but a mate of mine always always would say Walsall, he thought it was Warsaw in Poland not Walsall near Birmingham.

When I was younger I use to think the term "Caucasian" was a term used to refer to Mexicans with a lighter/whiter complexion. It wasn't until I was around 8 years old I understood what it meant. Mind you I grew up in a community of mainly whites and hispanics. Talk about some really confusing conversations.

When I was about 4-5, I used to believe that if I dug a deep enough hole in the sandbox, I would eventually end up above China, looking down at the chineese people from their heaven.
