I asked my mum if she had been on holiday to Mars when i was little...we had been watching a programme about it and was sure my mum had been there!!!

I used to believe that immigrants to a new country would eventually grow to look like the typical inhabitants of the country that they make their new home. For example, I thought that Chinese immigrants to the United States would eventually grow to look like "typical Americans" and no longer "look Chinese" after a sufficient period of living in the United States. That sufficient period, I envisioned, would be a few years or so.

When I was about 7 my mom told me we were going to Spain. We live in Mexico. Anyway, I started crying and told her I didn't want to go because I didn't want to wear those big dresses... too much tv I guess :p

For the longest time, whenever I heard about anything being "liquidated" (ie. homes, businesses, etc.), I imagined someone melting them into a liquid. It's only recently that I've realized that I thought that because of that scene from "The Wizard of Oz." ("You liquidated her, eh?")

My ethnic heritage became important to me when I was in second grade. My parents told me that I was "...mostly Scottish and French." I asked my mother what I was LEAST and she replied, "Chinese."

Quite truly, the next day at show and tell I announced to the class that I was a very small bit Chinese.

Up until a few months ago I thought Yankee player Hideki Matsui's name was just Mat Sui. My brother makes fun of me all the time now.

I told my four year old daughter that the picture of George Washington on the dollar bill was her baby picture. So far she still believes it and will tell anyone wheneve she sees a dollar.

Diana, Princess of Wales was a confusing title to a seven year old girl. Unaware that Wales was part of the UK, I thought she was princess of the big, underwater mammals. I wanted to be Princess of Dolphins. Still do, actually...

I used to believe when i was younger that the world was square so if u got in a boat and just kept going u would fall off the earth.

I remember thinking that Indiana was India, and it was part of the United States. I remember thinking how cool it was to live in the same country as Aladdin (don't ask).

When I was 5 years old, my parents took me to Colonial Williamsburg. I thought that the whole town was some sort of natural phenomena, like the grand canyon and Old Faithful. I thought that in like, the 1600's, the pilgrims, upon discovering this place, must have thought it was some idealistic representation of a faraway future.

When I was young I thought that a "Dude Ranch" was where people kept surfers untill it was warm enough to go in the water again. I also thought that babies came out of people and animals butts and was quite concerned when mine would come out (i was like 6)

I used to believe that parachuting was when a person jumped out of an airplane and a bunch of people were standing at the bottom holding out a parachute and he landed on it and was safe.

My brother would play softball with my sister and me in the yard when we were little (he pitched). When either of us hit the ball, he'd pick it up, run over, and "tag" 2nd base and tell us we had to "stay on first--that was in the rules." I don't remember ever winning a game against him.

When i was little i use to believe that whenever you would put ur finger on a map that people could actually see ur finger going by their window... So i would always slide my finger across Pennsylvania to see if i could see my finger go by...

On the TV news I was used to them showing a photo of a person's face in the corner of the screen with the name of that person underneath. So one day they showed Ayatollah Khomeini, with "IRAN" underneath, and I thought Iran was his name.

I grew up in a seaside town, and for several years I thought that everywhere had its own sea. The notion of 'inland' never really occured to me.
