When I heard the stock market reports on the radio, I thought they were buying and selling *chairs*, not shares. Millions of them, with the price changing all the time.
When I was in 2nd or 3rd grade I always thought that there was another side of the world beside the one that we say on a flat map; like you had to turn in around to see the other side.
I used to believe…
wen i was little i use to think that random was a place because on tv the presenters always use to say "the winners will be picked at random" and i always use to think those random bastads win everything!!!
When I was a child, I used to believe that you could dig your way to China, and in China, everything was exactly as it was here only upside down, and exactly the same time of day only night (12 hour time difference). I also believed that there was a person there exactly like a person here, only chinese!
When I was really little (like 5 or so), I used to believe that the beaver on the Canadian 5 cent coin was a bonnett - I took me a few years to figure out that it was actually a beaver. How silly is that?

When I would hear things on the news about Palestinians (from Palestine), I thought for the longest time that they were saying "Palaced Indians."

I used to think people in China went to American restaurants there and asked for forks to try them, as we did with chinese food and chopsticks.

i used to think belgium was a myth.
I used to believe that blank checks were money, and by simply having them you could write them for whatever amount you wished. My mother got very annoyed with me when I asked for a 0.25 paintbrush at a yard sale and when she said she didn't have a quarter I asked, "Can't you write a check?" I didn't realize that the money was in a bank account somewhere.
When I was about 7 years old, we moved to Wyoming (usa) and there was a business located near my fathers work called Tokyo Massage. I misread it and thought it said Tokyo Message, and I assumed it was for everyone in Wyoming who was wanting to talk to their friends or loved ones in Tokyo. Later, in Middle school, someone told me that I should work there, and I said something along the lines of "so, I would be good at sending messages" It wasnt until that day that I made the connection, what a loser!
I used to believe that hotels that rented by the hour were for people who were driving for a long time and wanted to stop and take a nap becuase they were tired of driving. Whenever my family went on vacation I would tell my dad that if he was tired we could find a hotel that rented by the hour so he could sleep.
When I was little, I believed that (american) football players' bodies were really shaped as they appear on the field. I never personally saw anyone shaped like that, but I thought that's because only famous people could play football, and I didn't know anyone famous. (I only ever saw football on TV, and I thought only famous people were on TV.) When I was in 2nd grade, my brother was then old enough to play jr. high football--I was surprised to learn about the shoulder and leg pads.

When I was little, I used to believe that football players really had shoulders that big.
I was 6 in 1974. I thought President Nixon was in trouble for stealings scotch tape. I kept imagining him climbing up my parents' fire escape and looking for scotch tape in my parents' room.
After we moved to San Jose when I was little, I used to believe my grandmother was just on the other side of the mountains. So I would stand in the front yard of our suburban West Valley house and scream "Grandma!" at the mountains, over and over.
Of course she didn't hear me, but it didn't help that I was yelling at the mountains between me and the Pacific Ocean, and my grandmother was in Ohio.
As a child, I thought that President Ford and actor Harrison Ford were the same person. Upon seeing Harrison Ford's movie "Air Force One", I told my mother "You know, he does such a good job being president, he should become the real US president again".
i used to believe that if i dug a deep enouph hole i could pop out in china.
I used to believe that credit cards were free money. If things were tight financially, the credit card company would help you out. One time when we checked out at the department store and the total seemed high, I told my mom that she should just use her credit card so she wouldn't have to pay it. I didn't understand until later why the cashier and mom found that so funny.
There is an exit on the Highway near my house that says "Pleasure Island Road". When I was a little girl, I used to think that was the road you took to get to Disney World!
