My younger brother once asked me what the building on the nickel was (Monticello)...I told him it was the "Tail Building". He went to school and told everyone, the teacher corrected him and the kids laughed.

He still reminds me of this...and I still apologize profusely.

remember the commercials with Phil Rizzuto for "the money store"? I thought it was a store that sold money at bargain prices.

When I watched my parents withdraw money from the bank, I literally believed that the physical bills they had deposited earlier were returned to them (like a storage locker). One day I saw the cashier reach into the drawer and hand a seemingly random stack of money to my parents and I asked , "How do you know they gave you your money back and not someone else's?"

When I was little I recall an incident where my mother was trying to get me to be thankful for what I had. She explained to me that there were people in the world who were so poor that they had to pick food out of the gutter. In a struggle to understand this horriffic level of poverty my four year old mind confused the details and for years I believed that people were trapped under the sewer grates and couldn't get out to get food. I wondered for a long time why people never put ladders and boxes of pizza (one of my favorie foods at the time) in front of the sewers so the people could get out and eat.

I used to believe that if I buried money it would grow like a plant. I put a lot of my allowance in the ground just hoping for a money tree!
I wonder if it is still there...?

When I was about 5, I asked my mom if we could go to McDonalds. When she told me that we couldn't that day, because she didn't have any money (as in, cash on her) I burst out crying. When she asked me why I was crying, I sobbed, "How will we ever eat again?!"

I can still rememeber the mental picture I would get when my Mom would tell my older brother to "Run downtown and get change for this dollar." I had it in my mind that the store had some kind of special tool that would split the dollar bill open, and pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters would come rolling out. (And what I saw usually amounted to about $4-$5 in change!!)

A life of innocent security came to an abrupt end one day when i asked my mother to buy me a toy. She replied that she didn't have the money for it, to which i replied that she should just go to the bank. She then explained that the bank wasn't just a place that gave you endless amounts of money whenever you wanted it. It was your money in the first place, and could run out just like that.

Okay when my brother was the ripe age of 13 yes that's right 13 he believed that if you went to an ATM to get money a UPS truck would have to come in order to give it to you....yeah he's not the brightest kid in the world

When I was young I used to believe that grocery store cashiers could give you free money. I reasoned this because I had seen the cashier give my mom "free money" numerous times. One time I wanted a toy at the store and my mom said I couldn't have it because she didn't have any money to buy it with. I told her to just go get money from the cashiers. She then explained to me the concept of change.

All American pennies say "In God we trust" and underneath that they have a portrait of a bearded man. Until I was 8 I thought the portrait was of God! Only later did I learn that it's Abraham Lincoln.

The first time I got to pay at the gas station, my grandpa gave me a twenty dollar bill.
When I gave the money to the clerk, I stood there for a while waiting for money back.
I thought gas was only .87 cents, and for the life of me couldn't understand why the
clerk kept the whole thing, not to mention my grandpa laughing at me.

I honestly used to believe that £100 was the largest sum of money you could ever own

I used to believe that when you paid for something at a store with cash, the clerk would sometimes give you back a smaller amount of money just to be nice. It took a while to figure out the concept of change.

I used to believe that as long as my mom had checks she had endless amounts of money.

Whenever I heard my dad telling my mum that he was going to 'withdraw' some money, I used to think that he was going to an art competition to 'draw' a picture of money and if he won he would get the real money. I alway used to ask him if he wanted to borrow my water colors.

I used to believe all the money I put in the bank, I would eventually be able to withdrawl again. Therefore, I put all my special commemorative coins in the coin rolls with my dad thinking that I would get them back again when I was older.

I used to believe that all the money in the world was your money and no one else's. So for example I used to get a pound coin every week for pocket money. I'd go and spend it and then the next week I thought my parent's had gone and got the same pound coin from the sweet shop and I was getting exactly the same pound coin as before. Now I'm older I realise that I was completely wrong and infact the amount of people that pound coin has belonged to b4 u is astonishing!
