I used to believe we lived IN the earth rather than ON it.
I thought Turkey was ruled by a turkey chancellor. To me, Turkey was a peaceful country with a lot of shepherds, and all of their sheep were from France. I had one snafuous understanding of the world when I was little
When i was a kid i thought that there was an English town called "Lestershire" and an entirely different town called "Leicestershire" that is pronounced the way it's spelled.
When I was very little, I used to think that there were two New Zealands because how it split on the map!

I used to believe that the whole world ended with Paris. I also thought Europe was a country! And every time you rewinded a videocassette or played it, little men inside the videocassette had to controll the filmrollers. Heh. I came to this conclusions all by myself.
when I was little, my best friend thought that when people moved, they just switched houses with one another, so when our neigbours moved to denmark, he thougt the new ones came from denmark.
I also remember him telling me that his father had given birth to him, since he was a boy. Mothers only give birth to girls!
The World - as a kid i never believed that Ancient Rome was actually in the same country as Rome is today, this went on till i was, hh, hm.. 18 !!
I live in Australia and when I was four I used to think New South Wales (the state where Sydney is situated) was actually in England.
Back when I first started school we were taught to remember directions: north was my head, south my feet, east my right hand, and west my left hand. So, to get to Alaska I would have to go straight up into the sky. Now I use a compass.
When I was little the were a string of arsons in my city. And I remember thinking, man I wouldn't want to live on Arson street, there is always a fire there.
When I was in elementery school I had a book that explained the three branches of the US government. There was a map of the United States that showed pictures representing each branch. For the Executive Branch it showed the White House in a circle on New Jersey and Pennsylvania. For the Legislative Branch it showed a picture of the Capitol on Virginia. And for the Supreme Court it showed a picture of the Supreme Court Building on Ohio. Ever since then I always picture the Supreme Court meeting in Ohio. Although now I know it meets in Washington, I can't shake the image of the court being in Ohio.
I used to believe that the lower level of the George Washington Bridge in NYC was named Martha Washington
As kids, when we used to ask ourdad where we would be going on our summer holidays, he would say "Ourgate" We believed that "Ourgate" was a place, in fact it was our garden gate - meaning we wern't having a holiday at all!

My Dad was a traveling salesman and as a boy he would take me on business trips during summer vacation. In the 1950's freeway system was expanding throughout California and they had markings for the roads that ran along side the freeways. They were marked as "Frontage Rd.". I remember getting on the interstate in L.A. and seeing "Frontage Rd." and then all the way to San Franciso seeing "Frontage Rd.". I thouht "Frontage Rd." was the longest street in California.
When I was little, I was convinced that Europe was pronounced like "your rope", and "Yurip (how Europe actually IS pronounced)" was a country within Europe.
