I used to believe that a "quarter to 5", literally meant a quarter like a coin (25). So I thought a "quarter to something" meant 25 minutes. It took me a long time to figure out it was a quarter of an hour. I always thought my parents didn't know how to tell time.

Yes, I ALSO used to believe that a quarter past the hour was 25 minutes past the hour. And yes, my rational too was that since a quarter was 25 cents, that a quarter past the hour was 25 minutes.

I used to believe that in reference to time, "a quarter till" or " a quarter of an hour" meant 25 minutes. It seemed logical since a quarter is worth 25 cents.

When I was in first grade, I wanted to get out of class already, and I asked my teacher what time it was and she said quarter to 3 (we got out at 3). I figured there were 25 cents in a quarter, so it must be 25 minutes until 3 o clock. Thank God I was wrong! lol

My mom had to leave early for a doctor's appt once during lunch hour, and she told me that I had to leave the house at quarter after 12 in order to get in school on time. I was so proud of my self for figuring out that quarter after 12 means 12:25 since a quarter is 25 cents, so quarter after means 25 after..

I used to think that a quarter past the hour meant 25 minutes after. After all a quarter was 25 cents, so a quarter of anything meant 25....

top belief!

Because I heard my parents referencing 15 minutes after the hour as "a quarter after"... and I knew that a quarter was 25 cents... I used to believe that "a quarter after five" was 5:25.
