When I was little I had never been to the men's restroom, because my mom always took me in the ladie's restroom with her. Once we were at the store with her boyfriend, and he took me to the men's room. I had never seen a urinal before. I told my mom that her boyfriend had just peed in the sink!

When I was a little girl, I didn't like loud noises. One of the things I believed was that the sound the toilet made when it was flushed called some type of evil spirit/monster, but this rule only applied after dark. As a result, I wouldn't flush the toilet if I got up to go during the night. Now as a mother of 4, I think about this when we wake up to unflushed toilets. My husband isn't as understanding, he gripes at them.

I used to believe that a corpse was going to float out if the toilet and take me down to the sewer to be his dead bride

When I was about two or three, my parents gave me my very own cardboard box and explained to me that by pretending, it could be anything I wanted it to be.
I thought it was perfectly logical to want my very own toilet, right in my own room. So I peed in it.

When I was young, I used to believe that if I sat on the toilet for a long time, it would suck me in. Thankfully, it didn't;-)

When I was a little girl I thought that my poop came alive after I flushed the toilet and lived with my other poops in the pipes. I pictured a long condo type of world where there were big poops (daddy), all the way to the teeny poops which were babies. (I can't believe I'm actually sharing this after 30 odd years of keeping this to myself!!!) I thought that they lived a good life, happy to out of me and on their own. I thought of the different neighborhoods and my friends poops meeting my own.
I'm happy to say I grew up to be well adjusted and hadn't thought about this since I was a little girl. Reading these other submissions prompted me to share my own.

When i was little (like 3 or 4) my big sister (by three years) told me that there was a "potty monster" and when you went number 2 it would come and eat you ass.....only for like a day though cause my mom told me it wasnt true....

After watching "The Blob" i was afraid to sit on the toilet because i thought it would come up the pipe and get me.

My girlfriend used to believe that if she used the toilet downstairs in her house that rats would come up and bite her bum! A belief that eventually spread to all downstairs toilets.
Even to this day she will avoid using toliets that are downstairs.

Ok, I still kind of believe this, but I am afraid of toilets. Ever since I was little, I somehow got the idea that a hog's head lived in the toilet. If you've ever heard of the story "Old Raw Head", thats who it was living in the toilets. I always thought that Old Raw Head would come out and get me. I also thought Chucky was in my shower. lol.
I used to believe that when you flushed the toilet it would explode if you were near it. Everytime I flushed I ran down the hall screeming and running for my life...i fell once and that is how I learned the truth
I used to believe that there were little people (who looked just like the Keebler elves) who lived in the toilet and drank pee and used poo as play-dough.Weird, huh?

when i was 6 i thought tarantula spiders could eat me so i had a fear of going to the toilet but sometimes i really need to go so i tried to pee real fast but i ended up peeing on the floor.

Our primary school toilets were very old-fashioned and had khaki-coloured doors. The cleaner's cupboard was next to the rows of cubicles and was the same length as each cubicle, but slightly wider, with two doors that were always locked. On my first time there, I thought it was a special, extra-big toilet with lots of exciting things inside. I figured it was always locked because someone else was in there and it was very popular. For years I believed this and was desperate to get in there, and I could never understand why someone always beat me to it. Even if I went in class time, it appeared to be taken. I couldn't believe my bad timing.
It was only about 5 years later when I was in there one day and the cleaner came in to get something out of the cupboard that I realised the truth.

When I was very young, I was absolutely terrified of being locked in a public toilet. I thought I would be in there forever. I decided that if it ever happened to me, I would just crawl out under the door. The trouble is that many toilet doors go all the way to the bottom, so if I was ever in one of those, I wouldn't lock the door at all but just try and hold it shut with my foot, while I.....went as fast as I could. I'm 22 now and grew out of it years ago but I must admit if I'm in a toilet and can see plenty of space under the door, it still makes me feel relieved.

when i was yunger i believed someone was down in the toilet and they would reach up and grab me. it scared me to death and i hated going to the bathroom
I used to believe…
When I was young (under ~10 years of age), I believed that the toliet would not flush during an electrical power failure. Any time I had to tinkle or drop a stool, I'd leave it unflushed until the lights came back on; then quickly race to that bathroom and flush.
i blame ghostbuster's for this: there was a ghost toilet that had teeth or something and for some reason that meant that the toilet would explode when i flushed it. so everytime i was ready to flush, i would open the door, hit the handle and run as fast as i could to get away just in case.
