I used to believe…

At the end of the underground line the train would disappear, and a new train would be made out of thin air to follow on the opposite direction.

I used to believe that there was a little person in the electrical boxes beside street lights that would change the lights at the appropriate times. If the light was taking too long to change, I would assume that they were taking a nap.

I used to believe…

When I was little, there were metal boxes that sat on the corner of the road by the traffic lights. I thought a "little man" lived in there and controlled the red lights. I also thought that 24 hour stores were operated by only one person. I thought the person that worked there lived inside the storr

I used to believe If I jumped off the porch with enough grocery bags on my arms they would act as a parachute and slow my fall. I spent hours on multiple occasions jumping off the front porch. Luckily it wasn't high enough to hurt myself.

I used to believe the white and yellow lines on the roads were for passengers to grab onto and slow the car down if they thought the driver was going too fast.

I used to believe that the handle between the two front seats in the car was call a "mercy brake". Because, "MERCY! I need to stop NOW!"... and because my mother spoke with a strong accent. I was in my teens when I figured out it was an emergency brake.

when I was little I believed, with the encouragement of my parents that the red hazard light button was really an ejection button for bad kids. In addition if the button were to be pressed one would go flying through the sun roof. I think I believed this for a good solid 3 years ;)

Traveling with my parents, we became lost. My Dad was looking for a fork in the road, where he would turn. He couldn't find it. Though I thought it odd, I kept looking out my window for a fork (stainless steel) planted in the middle of the asphalt road.

I used to believe…

My dad would push the button that turned the AC on in our family minivan and make a WHOOOSH sound effect, claiming that our minivan had just turned into the Bat-mobile. I believed him every time.

My mom used to tell me that blowing at red lights made them turn green. I did so dutifully, amazed that it always worked (eventually). I learned the truth only when I started furiously blowing at lights in a friend's car.

I used to believe that toilets on the airplane would empty out its "contents" from the into the sky and i would feel so sorry for the poor guy that would get poo falling from the sky landing in their backyard. So naturally I wouldn't use airplane toilets to reduce the amount of crap falling from the sky.

When I was little, my mom told me that once when my great-grandma was flying, she reached out the plane window and grabbed some clouds. She said it felt just like big cotton balls.
I didn't fly until I was in high school, so I couldn't test it out. Even then, I just figured that in my great-grandma's day, plane must have had windows that opened. It seriously wasn't till years later that I thought about it again...after I had learned about air temperature and pressure at those altitudes! Sheesh.

My dad used to claim he could make the light change from red to green at his command. He would say, "Ooma, ooma, booma!" and the light would change. What I didn't realize until I was 7 that he started saying his "magical phrase" when another light turned from green to yellow.

I used to believe that little men lived in traffic lights and watched for cars before they turned the light from red to green;

I believed my mom controlled the speed of our car by how much she moved the steering wheel. Not much movement = Fast. Lots of movement = Slow. I was terribly disappointed when I shared this finding with her and she told me about the gas pedal.

when we first got a car with electric windows, my sister and i coulnt figure out how the windows went down. my dad told us that they were voice activated.you just had to say "windows down" and windows up". he would say it and then at the same time, press the button. my sister and i tried for ages to get the windows down by voice, and he kept telling us we were saying it wrong.
