I used to believe…

When I was about 5 or 6, I used to beleive that there were little men inside of the traffic lights. I thought that the man would sit at a control desk with tons of screens, and when it was time to change the light, he would flip a switch.

When i was young i used to think that when aeroplanes left a trail of smoke in the air, it was actually their tail fins scratching the top of the sky

hall of fame

I used to believe that the jets that left smoke behind them were making clouds for days when there weren't any clouds and we needed them.

I was 10 when going to Italy on my first flight, and nearing towards the end of the journey the plane literally dropped and shortly after we were coming in to land, well zoom forward 13 years and now going on my second flight and to the USA this time, it was a fantastic flight, but after landing I was slightly disappointed that we hadn't dropped vertically before the landing, what I hadn't realised was that on my first flight it was likely we encountered turbulence and the plane had probably fallen a few hundred feet, I honestly thought the plane dropped from the sky until it was low enough and then just glided into the airport!!! Doh!

I used to believe that, in every city, a VERY large number of policeman(and woman), sat in a humongous room, looked at all the traffic lights through small TV screens (every single one,) and pressed buttons to make it change from red-yelleow-green.ex: a policeperson looks at a screen, then, munching a doughnut, sits up, pushes a green buton, and the cars start going.

I used to love to look out airplane windows at the clouds. I believed that if I jumped out, I would land on them and they'd be slightly bouncy and feel like cotton.

When I was little, i thought there were three little mice behind the each traffic light that would pull a string to make their light go on.

when I was little my older brother used to tell me that if I touched the handbrake release button in my dad's car, then I would fly out of the roof la James Bond! I believed him until I passed my driving test and it certainly stopped me from ever releasing the handbrake when I was little!

I used to believe…

when i was young maybe 6 i knew that drinking and driving was against the law but, i thought it meant drinking while driving. so one day my dad was drinking a coffee in the car and i told him he was gonna get arrested for it .

On Australian roads (don't know about other countries), roads have a zigzag line painted for a few metres before a pedestrian crossing, so driver's are aware that it's coming up. When I first saw one, I thought the cars and other road vehicles all had to follow that line and go zigzagging along the road.

I used to believe…

Not long after learning to read, I thought the number next to the town name on road signs was the temperature of that town, not the distance to it. I guess that came from my dad always wanting to see the weather on the news each night. I think I even said one day "look how hot it is in that town" and my parents agreed. I don't think they were being mean, I think they just had no idea what I was on about. I was a little embarrassed (but no one else knew my little secret) when I learned what the numbers really meant.

I also wondered how you were supposed to be able to read those signs with four or more different towns on them, because being a new reader, I could barely read the top one before we passed the sign, and of course everyone read at the same speed as a 4 year old.

I used to believe…

When I was little, I was very naive to things such as cars and stuff like that so, one day as me and my mom were driving, I noticed that there was a peddle that my mom never used and asked her what it was, she, the funny woman she is thought that it would be funny to tell me that it was a 3rd gas peddle and that when she got the car up to top speed, she would push that peddle in and the car would go faster, I'm sorry to say that I found out the truth when I was 23 and my husband had to inform me that it was not a 3rd gas peddle, but the cluch, I still feel stupid!

When I was younger we used to have this old car that used to talk and whenever you opened the door it would say " The door is a Jar" I always wondered who was saying that and why he was saying the door is a jar till my older sisters friend told me that it was a little man inside the radio and if we left the door open to long it would turn into a jar. I acctuall believed it till.....acctually last year and i am 13. lol

I used to believe that the arrows in the car stating which direction you are turning really told you which direction you are going to take, like the car already knew where you were going beforehand.

When I was young, and we would go in the car with mom, that the way she used to get the car to go backwards, was by turning to her right, and putting her arm across the seat. And as soon as she took her arm off the back of the seat, the car would go forward.. Dumb, isn't it.
