When I was about 5 or 6, my dad had this really old car called 'The Nova'. I loved that car so much, I hugged it before going to school. Then, when I was 7, my family said that the Nova was put into storage. I thought everything was dandy and fine since the Nova was in a storage place. I was 11 when I finally found out it went to the dump. I still love that old car...

In South Dakota, (coyote and sunshine state) when you go by a historical marker there is a picture of a sun, and a coyote on the back. One day my grandmother said look, there is a sun-dog...referring to the sky and the ring around the sun...and we just happened to be going by one of those signs. So for a long time, I believed that when you go by one of those signs....look up!

i'm not sure what category this would go in, but i always thought that rear view mirrors in cars had to be positioned very exactly and that it was really hard to adjust a rear view mirror just right. as a little kid i would always freak out if i accidentally bumped or moved it out of position.

As a child growing up in Connecticut, my mother read me the sign with the arrow on the entrance ramp to I-95 south. It said Connecticut Turnpike. Since we made a turn to get on the entrance ramp, I always thought that the entrance ramp was THE Connecticut Turnpike, and I was so proud that it was in my town!

After a road safety campaign that focused on "Don't drink and drive", my 3 year-old son started yelling in the car one day; "Dad, don't drink and drive." His dad was drinking a Diet Coke!

I was thoroughly convinced as a child that my father could make lights change, and that occasionally, he could endow me with this ability.

We'd be at a light, and finally, he'd say, "Change, light!" and it would! Occasionally, he'd tell me to yell "CHANGE!" and it would.

Funny how I never put together that he was just watching the opposing lights to see when they went yellow. :)

Once when i was small my father, who was always an angry driver made a sharp wrong turn which made a hub cap fall off -he yelled " oh s**t, now i've dropped a real clanger " till i as about 18 i thought hub caps were called clangers

My mother and I used to go driving at night a lot (my father worked the night shift). She liked to go around and play "pretend" with me...like what kind of furniture would we have if we lived in that house? Anyway, this involved driving in many small neighborhoods where it's all Dead Ends and Cul-de-Sacs. Everytime I saw the sign "Dead End," I panicked. I envisioned an end to the road much like the cliffs in the old Wile. E. Coyote cartoons. I always thought "Dead End" meant...hear ya go...over the cliff...this is your dead end.

When I was little I thought rubber and gasoline would explode, so I'd always put erasers in the glove box when we got gas.

When I was about seven I used to believe that where the roads are now, there was a really deep hole and they had to build the roads over it. In fact, it was so deep, that anyone who fell in it would never be able to climb out. I remember driving in the car with my parents when they commented that the new road had a lot of cracks in it. I immediately started crying, believing that the road was going to cave in and we would all have to live underground for the rest of our lives.

I used to believe that car windscreens knew when it was raining and they were getting wet; and so the windscreens turned the wipers on and off, and regulated the speed of them automatically. Didn't occur to me that the driver had anything to do with that part.

I think I was a bit ahead of my time.
