When I first went to the top of the St. Louis Arch (about 5 yrs. old) I thought I was in an airliner because of the small windows and the view of the city. Apparently I had completely forgotten the elevator ride to the top!
I used to believe that car exhaust turned the wheels of the car and that pressing the brake pedal would extend a stick that would skid on the road to slow the car.

My mom used to be a bus driver. Back then, the buses had a key, and a special switch that you had to push to turn it off, and if you just took out the key, it wouldn't turn off. She had the kids on the bus believing that she drove the Magic School Bus, because she could pull out the key while driving and the engine would keep running. She avoided the 'change the bus into something' questions by claiming she could only do it on field trips (who knows what she said on field trip days...).

I used to believe that car air conditioning was made because their were ice cubes all along the inside of the car. The hot air from outside would be sucked into the ice cubes, pass them, then blow the cold air on me.

My friend used to believe that the lights that tell you when to cross the road were real people that were just really little and were employed to paint themselves red or green, dependng on whether they were "safe to cross" or "don't cross" and then appear when they were needed.

When I was little, I thought that a road bearing a "No Exit" sign meant that, once you'd entered the road, you weren't allowed to leave. As we once lived on such a street, I wondered how Dad could drive in and out every day.

When I was younger I always believed that somehow our family car knew where we were going and had its own brain and it was a person disguised as a man. I was deathly scared of the "car man". I thought the car always knew where we were going because of the turn signals, i never knew until i was 10 that my parents would flip the turning signal on. Once i realized that i was less afraid of the family car and the "car man". I still today get carefully in the car because part of me still believes that their really is such thing as a "car man"

A friend of mine believed until he was in his teens that the shape of the truck indicated what it was carrying. Therefore rectangle trucks carried tissue boxes, tank trucks carried cans etc.

When I was about 9 or so, my mother was shopping for a used car, at that time I believed that the more miles a vehicle had the further it would go. I found a car that had 60,000 miles on it and desperately tried convincing my mom to buy the car, when I explained to her that if she got the car with only 7,000 miles she wouldn't be able to go 60,000 miles unless she bought the car that had 60,000 miles she laughed and later explained to me the "truth behind car milage". :)
