i used to believe that there was a little green alien a little orange alien and a little red alien that only stood up when they felt like it

i used to believe that little men sat inside traffic lights and would change the colour of them

I used to beleive that little men operated the traffic lights from inside. They were really skinny and had white long beards and they had elevators to get to the levels where they swiched on and off the lights, and catch the people who went though red lights Then there was a power outage and the lights weren't working so I told my mom that the men would fix it...

When I was about four, I was riding in the car with my mother. She had a big cup of soda-pop from some fast food resteraunt, and she picked it up and took a sip at the stoplight. I was horrified, and made that clear. After all, I was pretty much certain that there was something very wrong with "drinking and driving."

She, of course, explained what that phrase actually meant.

I used to believe…

As a child, I grasped the notion of stop signs indicating that you should stop. However, I was confused as to how you know when to go again. Of course, my older sis gave me the answer: once you've been stopped for a while, a little man scurries out from the bushes and runs off with the stop sign, indictating that you can go.
But of course, I'd never seen the "little stop sign man", and so I assumed my mom was continuing through the stop signs illegally. So, every time she did it, I would lecture her about how we should have waited for the "little stop sign man" to come from the bushes. She was baffled, of course, and probably considered for a while that my mental health might have been somewhat less than ideal. Later, when I confronted my sister about her lie, she denied having ever said it...... thanks, sis.

When I was young I did not understand on the car mirror how it said "Object's in mirror are closer than they appear"....somehow I thought, "If something appears in the mirror, how can it be closer than it appears?"

hall of fame

I used to think that traffic lights could see cars because how would they know when to let the other cars go through?

I used to believe that aeroplanes were robotic birds that flew around really high and that their nest was at the airport where they would then eat more people because the people would walk right into what looked like their stomach!

I thought until I was *deleted* years old that airplanes took off by means of a jump at the end of the runway.

I used to believe that all traffic lights were operated by people in a big control room under the streets. I have no clue where this idea came from.

I used to believe…

When I was little I asked my mother what the little bumps (the reflectors) in the middle of the road were for, she replied that it was there so blind people knew they were in their lane.

I used to believe…

When I was young, I was always confused about how, at night, the car-lights on one side of the road were always red, while the ones in the other one were white. It never occured to me that the cars were going in different directions, and for years I was convinced that there were designated "white-light" and "red-light" lanes. But it always confused me that we were always in the "red-light" lane, since I had seen the white front headlights once when my mom was pulling into the garage. I rationalized that the lights change color as you are pulling into your garage.

When I was about six years old, I used to go shopping with my grandfather. When we were standing in front of a traffic light, he could always tell me when it would turn green, but when I tried, I wasn't even close. I thought he had special powers. Now I know he just looked if the cars on the road had already stopped, because our light would turn green then.

I used to believe…

When I was a child, I lived in Canada, where the cars are on the otherside of the road, and the driver sits on the otherside of the vehicle. When I spotted a double decker bus, whilst on holiday in England, I shouted "Holy macaroni, a bus with no doors!!"

I used to believe…

My friend lived not very far from railway line. During the 'hussle and busstle' of a normal day the trains were not noticed butwith the quiet of the evening and night, the express trains would pass by with the usual train type sounds.... she thought the sound was the moon passing over the house!

I was just a little kid when my parents bought their first new car and it had cruise control. My mom took the car out the highway one day and told me to watch as she set the car in cruise control. I watched and saw the pedal move by itself and at the same time she took her hands off the steering wheel for a secord or two. That was all I needed to believe that cruise control was the setting that made the car drive itself like the cars I'd seen in tv shows. Although I could never really understand how it worked I secretly believed it to be true. It wasn't until I was 15 yrs old and saw my boyfriend drive with cruise control that it suddenly became clear to me! Gosh, I was gullible back then!
