I used to believe…

My dad had convinced me and my sister that he was in control of the traffic lights because when he said green it would turn green. Only recently did me,17 and my sister,20 realize that they were timed and after a few seconds of the other lights turning red, ours would turn green. :)

I used to believe there were little people in the place where the car windows go when they are down who cleaned the windows.

When i was younger and saw the lights on the dashboard when you turn the blinker on, i used to think the car was doing it by itself and was telling my parents where to turn.

I used to believe…

When I was little I didn't know that cars drove on different sides of the road, so I'd sit there at the side walk and wait for 2 cars to go by and wait for them to crash.

When I was a kid my pops used to tell me and my siblings that the button to turn on the hazard lights in the car was an ejector seat and that if any of us were misbehaving he would shoot us all into the sky. Needless to say, I never touched that button until I started driving...

I used to believe that the government knew where we wanted to turn at an intersection. It wasn't until I was tall enough (twelve years old) to see the 'left turn only' sign on the street that turning lanes came to mind.

i used to believe that for every street light there was a dwarf man underneath swiching it on and off. I had this vision of him sat in a swivel chair with computer screens all round him (very technical business) haha. And when his shift had finished the whole light and his work space would lift out of the ground and he would just step on to the street. Also for some reason i always imagined them with metal lunch boxes.

I used to believe…

When I was little my teachers always told me it was bad to drink and drive. I never ever told them how often my mom would bring a diet coke in the car and drink it when she drove us around. I was afraid she would go to prison.

I used to believe…

When I was little I believed that stoplights were activated when they saw their specified color. So, being a redhead, I'd duck every time I saw a stoplight.

I used to believe…

"Don't drink and drive" to me meant anything. Water, coke, coffee. But then I always wondered, "Why do cars have cup holders?" I thought car companies were rebels who wanted people to drink and drive!

When I was a little kid, I used to believe that "Pedestrians" were another race of people and I was confused as to why they would be segregated from the rest of us, as my lessons at school taught me that all races were equal.. Seeing signs all over the place that read "Pedestrians Only" or "Yield for Pedestrians", or "Watch for Pedestrians" continued to confuse me. What was so special about pedestrians? What was wrong with them? Why couldn't they walk with the rest of us? It wasn't for a year or so that I realized what a pedestrian really was. =)

I used to believe…

When I was little, and stop lights were bigger and boxy, I used to believe that tiny people were operating the lights, and that they had little holes where they could peer out to see which side cars were coming from, and that they would change the lights of the colors accordingly
