I used to believe…

when i was young and continuing to see the pedestrian crossing sign on the way home from church/school/whatever, I wondered why they got their own cross-walk sign, because our church members didn't have their own cross-walk signs, especially in front of everyone elses homes and schools. (Thinking that Pedestrian was Presbyterian (sp?))

Because of my name, Aaron, I once thought Air Conditioning was actually "Aaron-ditioning" and was for my pleasure only and to make other people cool you had to buy "Joe-ditioning" or "Sarah-ditioning" or whatever their name might be.
Yeah, I ate a lot of paint chips.

At night, when I was younger, I would see the jets and planes in the sky and never knew what they were because all I could see were the lights in the sky. When asking my dad what the odd lights were in the sky, he replied with "cars, going over huge bridges." Ill be sure to pass the cute myth along to my children one day.

You know the big power boxes on the side of the road (in New Zealand). When I was younger i used to believe that a little man lived in there, and he used to flick all the switches to turn on all the lights! :)

i used to stand behind the car exhaust when i was little because the fumes were so warm in winter. my dad told me if i let the gas touch me i would get warts all over my legs. i still stay away from exhausts.

when i was an anklebiter, i used to ask everyone where all the trees were driving to.

Becuase we were travelling in our car and the trees would pass us as we drove .. i always thought they were driving the other direction!!

When I was younger and we used to travel with the windows down I thought the sounds the tires make on the ground was because the tires were new. I also thought that if you ran over the reflectors that were sometimes embedded in the ground on highways you would cut you tires.

When I saw commercials saying "Don't drink and drive" i thought that meant you weren't allowed to drink anything while you were driving. So when my dad was drinking a pop I told him that you weren't supposed to drink and drive.

I used to believe…

When I was little I thought that trains crossed from one track to another like you could do with cars in Scalextric, by the driver shifting a joystick to the left or right.
Nobody told me they had connecting tracks at junctions!

I used to believe that no drinking and driving meant that you couldn't drink anything while you were in your car. I would always be afraid that my mother would get arrested and I would become an orphan.

I used to believe…

When travelling by plane, my older brother used to tell me that you didn't actually go anywhere, they just got a load of blokes to change the people, scenery etc on the ground!

I used to believe that the traffic lights were operated by a miniature person who hid close to the traffic lights so he could direct traffic. I thought that he used a remote control to do this!

I used to believe…

My dad told me the hazard light button was actually for the ejection seat. And we didn't know which one it ejected. Thanks Dad.

I used to believe…

My dad used to tell us that he could change the traffic light from red to green by blowing at it from his spot in the driver's seat. We believed it until we finally learned that he was watching the lights on the other side and could see when they were changing from green to yellow to red. He had really GREAT timing!

i have a friend who, until a few minutes ago, believed you couldn't use computers on airplanes because having them above a certain elevation would cause them to go haywire and intercept phone calls...i told him he was right, and if he ever sees anyone on a plane using a computer, to call a stewart/ess and have them throw it out a window.

I used to believe…

My friend (whose last name is "Long")used to believe that all trucks on the roads belonged to her Dad. Whenever they saw one with the sign "Long vehicle" on the back, her Dad would say "Look, another one of my lorries"

I used to believe…

My daughter was not quite three when I had a car accident. Apparently the one thing that stuck in her mind was that I hadn't been *(uncharacteristically mind you) been wearing my seat belt. She became convinced that if you didn't wear a seat belt you'd crash!

My mate told me that when he was young he thought a double-decker bus had 2 drivers - one for the top deck and one for the bottom! The driver on the top had to be really good to keep the top deck directly above the bottom!

I was taught in school one day that drinking and driving was bad , but they never specified alcohol , so when my mom picked me up from school that day I immediatley told her to stop drinking the soda she had in her hand before she drove us home, or she would get pulled over by the police and go to jail.

I used to believe…

When I used to see the signs that said "WRONG WAY" posted on ramps to and from the highway I always used to think to myself "how do they know it's the wrong way, it may be the right way(direction) for someone to go home"
