I used to believe that trains ran along the roofs of houses. I had yet to discover the concept of perspective.

On the way to Queenstown there are sign that read "Caution Road Slumps Ahead" and near Alexandra "Caution Hill Slumps Ahead". As a child I go very worried about this imagining slumps as being some big slug like creature that would "slump" out and get you if you weren't cautious and that there were two breeds of them. Only in NZ huh?

There was stretch of road with big, old overhanging trees that Mom used to drive us through. At the beginning of this stretch there was a "Beware of Pedestrians" sign. We told our little brother that "pedestrians" were like octopus in the trees that dropped down on the cars and ate everybody in them. He believed this for years, poor kid.

On family car trips, my sister used to hold my head down to prevent me from looking out the window and she'd tell me she could see "Cinderella" and "Sleeping Beauty" and all my favorite Disney characters, and they'd all disappear as soon as she let my head up. I think I only believed it for a year or so.

I used to believe that the blue high-beams light on the dashboard of the car was a radar that detected oncoming traffic. At night, I was too short to see the cars before my mom/dad did, but I soon noticed that every time I heard a click & the blue light turned off, a car would go by. It was only logical.

I live in the city of christchurch (New Zealand) The nearby hills are a part of what is known as Banks Peninsula, and Christchurch is in the Province of Canterbury. This part of NewZealand is very flat geographicaly and referred to as the Canterbury plains. The local weather forcast always started as follows....For Christchurch, Banks Peninsula and "the plains" until midnight tonight......My interpratation as a young child? I knew I lived in cristchurch, knew the hills were banks peninsula, and was very satisfied thinking that midnight was when "the planes" stopped flying at the airport

I use to wonder why couln't a person fall asleep if he turned his cruise control on. I use to think that cars drove themselves when the cruise control was on. I didnt find out the truth until I was about 15!! Talk about slow!!

My Mum used to believe that an aeroplane went up into the air and waited for the world to turn around so the place they wanted to go to was beneath the plane!

I used to believe that cat's eyes worked by way of two tiny oil lamps. They were fuelled by collecting oil from the road dropped by leaky cars.

I used to get car sick alot and dad once told me that the black piece of rubber that dragged on the road was made to stop kids from getting car sick. I was never sick again, and now know that the rubber is to stop getting small electric shocks off the car

My mom and I use to go to the Outlet every weekend. We were on our way and went down a one-way road when I saw a sign that said "NO OUTLET". I said "mom, this isn't the right way ,see there's no outlet store".

I used to think I could change traffic lights to green.
If I knew we were in a hurry to get somewhere I would talk to the
traffic light under my breath and promise it lots of new wires if
it changed to green , and it would a lot of the time.
It was sort of cruel of me to lie to them.lol.

I used to believe…

When I was five, we had our first school trip. Our class was going to take a coach to London Zoo. I was absolutely thrilled ... not about the zoo, but about the coach ride. I could talk about nothing else and nobody could figure out why I wasn't more excited about the zoo.

When the coach finally arrived in the school car park I was distraught and through my sobs managed to explain to the teacher, "that's not a coach, it's a bus".

... the only coach I had ever heard of was the bejewelled horse drawn carriage that took Cinderella to the ball - and that was how I had been expecting to go to the zoo.
