I used to believe…

When we were young we believed our heads would be chopped off when going over(under) covered bridges, so we always used to duck our heads. The driver was immune though.

I was sitting in a plane once and convinced myself that if I looked hard enough at the clouds that I would be able to see the angels playing on the clouds.

I used to believe that there was special metal laid in the motorways that made the cars go faster!!

As a kid I used belived that when the Traffic lights turned Green, it meant "Go" for everyone. And so I would run like mad to cross the street darting between the cars. I also belived that the books and teachers were wrong in school, coz if it means "GO" for cars it means "GO" for everyone.

I realised how lucky I was in college when I saw my friends wait for the light to turn RED to cross!!

I used to belive that if you got hit and injuried by a car on a crossing, and did not have your feet exactly on the white stripes, The insurance woldnn cower for the expences !!

When I was a small child, living in New Zealand, the bus driver used to hook your pushchair onto the front of the bus. I remember always being terrified that my mother and I wouldn't get on the bus fast enough and he would drive off, taking my pushchair with him.
I must have really loved that oushchair.

I frequently saw my mom driving, and had a pretty good idea of how it was done. But, when we made turns and the turn signal would come on, I couldn't see how she did it-I thought the car could tell which way she wanted to turn by reading her mind and turned the signal on automatically.

I grew up in a smaller city and had no idea what a skyscraper was (you know, the tall buildings, like in New York). I always thought that white trail the planes left in the sky were skyscrapers because it looked like they had scraped the sky!

I used to believe…

In some places in America, they have an 'End Construction' sign to let drivers know that it was the end of the stretch of roadwork. When I was a child, I thought it meant that they were constructing an end to the road somewhere down the line. I always wanted my parents to keep driving until we could see where they were building the end of the road, but to my frustation, they never seemed to know what I meant.

It took an embarassingly long time for me to figure out what it really meant - but that was probably helped by the fact the road department never got around to taking to sign down for several months after the roadwork was finished.

I used to believe…

When I was 5 or 6,I noticed that whenever Dad got caught by a red light,he would scream damn monkeys! So for awile I believed the monkeys controlled traffic lights!

i used to believe that the way traffic lights changed colour was by a little man living inside the traffic lights. every time the colour changed i thought he had moved, i.e if the lights were red he was standing inside the red light, if the lights were green he was standing inside the green light.

I used to believe…

When I was little, I'd be in the car with my mom, and I'd see these signs all over town that had a little stick-man with the red "NO" symbol over him and it said, "No Ped X-ing" When I was little, I had no idea what it meant. In my head, I would wonder, "No Ped Zing?"

I used to believe…

as a child i could never stand to travel in a car at night because all the lights you saw were red in front of you so, of course, this means you're on the road to hell because all the whilte lights coming towards you are going to heaven. then again when i did turn around i saw all the lights coming towards me were white and all the lights travelling further away were red. guess we were screwed either way.

When first arriving in Australia as a young boy I used to see signs on the roadside stating "Caution: Road Plant Ahead"
I had no idea what it meant as I never spotted any plants causing a problem. I did sometimes see some road works which I guessed where needed as plants had damaged the road.
It was only much later that I learnt that the term plant was used for roadworking machinery.

I used to believe that traffic lights were controlled by groundhogs (or some similar animal) that had been trained to make the lights change when it felt cars go over the road.

When I was a wee lass, I thought that the big blue and white "H" signs on the side of the road indicated the burial place of a famous horse. It of course leads you to a hospital.

I used to believe…

Our children believe there are alligators on the Interstates and Highways, because every time we pass a piece of rubber on the road from a retread, my husband hollars "road gator", and all the kids start looking around.

When I was about 11, My grandparents took me on a trip with them, along the way we passed a "DO NOT PASS" sign, my Papa said "DONUT PASS", for years, I pictured a donut shop with about fifty police cars parked all around it. Hey, I can't help it if I'm a slow reader!

We used to travel alot when I was growing up. I remember every time we came to a draw bridge sign, my parents would yell, Hurry and draw a bridge, before we cross. I never could find paper and pencil in time. I used to think it would open up when we were halfway accross and swallow us up.

I used to believe when I was little that when driving in a car, the car stayed still, at the top of the world and by using the controls, the world would move.
