My dad managed to convince me that he had some sort of special power that could make traffic lights change. I have no idea how he did it, but he always knew when it was about to go red or green when it was on amber.. he told me that it was something that all drivers knew... and the thing is, he wasn't wrong.. but I thought it was some sort of magic power that only drivers had...

I could never understand how traffic lights made cars stop. I thought the red light was somehow transmitting a signal to the braking system.
I used to believe that when you came to an intersection and saw a "ONE WAY" sign that you had to turn and go that way. I never understood why my dad would ignore those signs.

When I was young and my dad would stop for gas and say "Fill it up Ethyl" I thought all gas station attendants were named Ethyl.

once, when riding in the car with an aunt, I asked her if we could turn up
the air condiioner. she told me no, because if the air conditioner blew too long on
one part of your body it would freeze. I really believed this until I was close to 20!

Once I was able to read, when traveling in the car, I would see numerous signs on the highway for a "Frontage Road". I looked and looked, and for the life of me, could not find that dang Frontage Road! My dad later told me that the frontage road was the same as the service road.

Living in Chicago means riding on the "L" train. One of the stops was for a street called California and I thought it really WAS California. The only thing I didn't understand was wht we skipped all those states in between.

The meaning of colors: I learned this from my uncle jerry when i was three and i still believe it! Green means Go, Red means Stop, and Yellow means run like _ell to beat the Red. I think uncle jerry must have told alot of people!

We used to vacation in Hilton Head, South Carolina. And, I was the youngest of 7 kids, so I knew all the big-kid words at a very young age. Well, you can understand my dismay and confusion when I used to see signs down in South Carolina that read: "S.C. Law: Please do not feed or molest the alligators" I could understand telling people not to feed the alligators, but I never imagined that people in South Carolina would MOLEST a poor alligator!

When I was in the back of a car one rainy day, one of my mother's friends remarked that the windshield wipers were hypnotizing. I had always wanted to know what it felt like to be hypnotized, so I would stare at the windshield wipers in every car I got into. Never worked. Every once in a while, I catch myself still doing it.
