When I was about ten I read a book called 'Slipt', and in one part a school bus gets hit by a train and all the kids get killed. From that point on I would only ride next to the emergency exits on school buses so I could get away if I saw a train coming.

When on a two-lane road, when it is no longer safe to pass a car (by going into the oncoming lane) - there is a sign "Do No Pass". Until my driving exam, I never understood why those signs where there. Because I thought it meant I should pass beyond that point. As if danger were ahead!!
i once saw this freaky x-files episode where this guy gets all his blood sucked out of him by this monster thing that was living on the ceiling in aeroplane bathrooms. even now, i still look at the ceiling before entering the aeroplane loo.

You know how they paint STOP AHEAD on the road? Well I could never figure out where that head was that we were suposed to be stopping for.

When I was young I used to think that the twin lights I'd see way up in the sky were car lights on a faraway mountain road. My dad told me they were.
I used to believe that the "Crime Watch" signs in our neighborhood ment "watch for crime, because its really bad here". I used to get so nervous when we'd pass these. This continued until I was 9!

When I was about five or six, I thought the "Hazard" button on a car, if pressed while the car was in motion, would make the car do a jump ala "The Dukes Of Hazzard". I never got up the nerve to press it, though.

When my brother and I were little, we had walkie talkies. We also lived by an airport, so planes would frequently fly overhead. For the longest time we thought we were talking to pilots on our walkie talkies, but it only turned out to be our next door neighbor, who happened to have a walkie talkie that picked up our signal.

When i was young i would think that there were people underground that controlled the traffic lights. They'd use Cameras and Tv monitors to watch the cars from their cozy offices beneath the surface.

When I was about 5 I listened to 'Hatchet' on tape and it made me think that I should never go on a plane with anyone because they'd die and the plane would crash in a lake and their head would rot...

When I was little, my best friend's mom had a car where you could take out the keys while driving and it'd go on, and she told me it was magic. When she traded it in for a new one I was disappointed that it couldn't do the same thing, so she told me it could fly. I kept on waiting for her to make the car take off into the air like in Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang.

I used to believe that cars drove because of hundreds of little people living inside them turning treadmills. I felt rather betrayed when I found out otherwise.

my mother and father used to have a Pontiac Grand Am that had the paint peeling off of it. they always commenter that the car had leprocy, obviously i thought that leprocy was when that paint peeled off of your car. in the third grade my teacher asked what leprocy was. i raised my hand and proudly gave my answer (thinking i was a genius). i then learned that i really wasnt.

my mother used to tell me the bumps (reflectors) dividing the lanes on the street were there so blind people could drive.

During car rides, it would sometimes seem like the Sun was following our car, although this was just an illusion, due to the sun's enourmous size. How did the sun know to follow just our car?
I used to believe that the saying, "don't drink and drive" meant all drinks. So one day when my mother started up the engine with a can of diet coke in the cupholder, I looked at her very sincerely and said, "Mommy, you know you shouldn't drink and drive." SHe cracked up.

When I was young my grampa would always tell us to duck when going underneath a bridge, in the car, or we would bump our heads. Also, to hold our breath when going through a tunnle because the air was bad. Guess, he thought it was funny.

Age 5: I believed that traffic lights were inhabited by small babies. After all, adults couldn't fit in them, right? Inside the traffic signals were red, yellow, & green buttons for the babies to push. When we got stopped at a red light for a long time, it stood to reason that the baby in that light had fallen asleep. A few honking horns would awaken the baby, who would then push a green button. Weird, huh?

I used to think "Yield" signs read "Yelled", so I thought that they were there to show where someone had once yelled at something.
