I used to believe…

When I was little, every time I saw and heard an aeroplane pass overhead I thought it was a bomber and that we were at war, so I'd run inside and only emerge when the danger had passed.

I used to think that cars were powered by their exhaust pipes - kind of like a jet engine.

I could never figure out why they didn't need another one on the other side to stop them going around in circles!

I used to believe that cars were propelled by their exhaust pipes and it made perfect sense to me as ferraris had four and skodas had one little one.

When I was young, we sometimes used to go driving on holiday in Europe. Sometimes there were some very long tunnels under mountains.

I used to believe that when we came out of the other side of the tunnel, we were really still in it but the walls were showing pictures of the outside. Like a big tubular TV.

I used to believe…

As a South London child, going on the Tube was a treat - I used to read the station names on the Northern Line map and believed that space rockets took off from Euston.

I thought the trail left by aeroplanes in the sky was Grotbags (of Pink Windmill fame) was coming to get me on a hoover!

I used to believe…

if your feet are on the ground when a train goes by you get "the lurgy"

On motorways the person at the front of the traffic had set out
first

hall of fame

I used to believe there were small men who lived in the traffic lights and made them change color. Sorta like the rice crispy fellas.

— Dustin Robertstransport : traffic lights

I used to believe that cars moved by being blown along by their exhaust (that's why the exhaust pipe points out the back!)

I used to think that little men lived inside traffic lights and when the lights changed to red they had to colour in the green circle before the lights changed! Odd, I know!
