When I was a kid I asked my mom what the city bus was, and she told me, "It's stops and picks you up and takes you downtown." She didn't mention the fact that it was a voluntary thing, that you had to WANT to get on the bus and to pay a fare, so I just got the idea in my head that if I happened to be walking down the street and the bus came up alongside me it would just stop and abduct me, so for a long time I was very wary of the bus.

When I was little, I used to believe that there was a man in the red lights. This man had to go through the red light at the green light. When the red light was long, I thought that the man was asleep. My parents told me that I was not true. They told me it was automatic. I was reassured because I thought that the man must be tired. Today when I'm at a red light, I still think about this anecdote and I laugh...
