I was riding with my dad in his truck when I was 4. We hit a pothole and he exclaimed "You could lose a tire in that!"
I spent quite a few years terrified that potholes were very deep holes that our tires might just fall into.

When I was little, I was convinced that honking your horn would turn a red traffic light green. Whenever we were the first car at a red light, I would ask my mom why she didn't just honk so we could go faster. Since she never did I thought she just didn't know the secret.
I honestly still kind of think this is true.
I used to believe that my Dad could magically make red lights change by snapping his fingers and saying "Change, light, change," because whenever he would do this, the light would change. It was a long time before I realized he was watching for the yellow light in the other direction before he did this.

My grandfather told me that pulling on the lumbar hook in the car would blow it up. I believed that for a really, really long time.
I used to believe that all planes were really just wind up toys that were thrown from place to place, and that all the passengers went through a tunnel to get shrunk to fit inside and were always just wound up and thrown like a toy to their destination.
i used to think that to drive somewhere you had to remember how and when to turn the steering wheel at exactly the right points, as if there were no roads. So i remember when my mum would be driving to places i would think i would start learning how to get to whereever we were going and think
''ok so it turns right a bit, then left a lot, then nothing for a while'' e.t.c... hahahahaha

When I was little I use to believe there were workers under each street intersection controlling traffic by switching lights. Pushing the pedestrian button would choke them, making them change the lights quicker. I always felt guilty pressing the button more than once.

When I was little, my dad used to travel a lot for work. More often than not, his flights home would return after I was in bed, and when he got home he would come upstairs to give me and my sister kisses and let us know he was home. For the longest time, I though the airplane dropped him off in front of our house. I used to try and stay awake to see the plane land on our street, but I always fell asleep.

When I was in the car with my mother when I was a child, she would occasionally say "oh, we're out of gas," and then would drive to the gas station. I thought that when the car ran out of gas, it would only allow you to drive to the gas station, but nowhere else, or even that it would drive there automatically.
I used to think that at some point during every plane flight, the plane would crash, but people only died if they didn't successfully land in clouds. Cirrus clouds were adequate, but the best cloud to land in would be a cumulus. Halfway through my first plane flight, I got really nervous because there were no clouds, and my mom asked me what was wrong. She laughed and explained. I was six.
