When I was little, I thought that cars were psychic. It blew my mind that every time we came up on a turn, the car would blink this little arrow telling the direction we should turn, and we always turned that way! I was very disappointed when I found out that my father was responsible for the blinker coming on, not the car itself. :D
I used to believe that traffic lights were remotely controlled by someone looking out from a nearby building. The traffic controller would therefor change the light appropriately depending on the traffic. I therefor thought that the controller wasn't paying attention when we were stopped at a red light and there were no cars driving in the other direction.

When very young I remember my father driving down the Hi-way. There was a sign saying "Pass With Care", but see we were in a pick-up truck. Not being able to tell the difference between "car" and "care" at the time, I thought for sure we'd be arrested.

When I was young, I was certain that inside every single stop light, a small man was sitting and waiting for the man watching the traffic in the pole to tell him it was time to change the lights. My dad had pretty good luck with the colors and was always singing at the light so I was pretty sure they liked his singing, now I'm constantly belting a good tune when I'm waiting on a rather lengthy light to change.
I use to believe hamsters controlled traffic lights. They had to run on a wheel all day to make the lights change at different times. I believed that for a while then I got smarter and "knew" that it was a guy in an office with a bunch of remotes that had red and green on them. He didn't need a yellow one because when he pushed red, obviously, it would turn yellow for a little while before it was red.
I used to believe that any time I rode with my parents in a car that we were actually in an actual race. I also used to picture my grandmother and all my family members listening to the race on the radio at home.
I thought that limousines were bendable and could curve around turns. I got this idea from a cartoon.
