I thought a Gas Chamber was just a place you went to put gas in your car!

I used to believe…

When I was about eleven we lived near an airport. It was at the height of the Cold War. The jets engines overhead sounded just like the falling bombs in all the old WWII movies. I thought the jets were from enemies who were going to bomb us.

I thought it was illegal to own a minivan if you lived in Arizona. I have no idea how I thought that.

I used to believe…

When I was a child I used to believe that airplanes could take you to the moon just because they were near the sky all the time. My dad broke my heart when he told me that wasn't true.

When i was a child, I use to believe that the airplanes was controled from the peope on the floor, and they played with them 😝...like a toy.

I used to believe that the planes flew by the engine but now I know that they fly , because the wings with the air and the pressure (differents air pressure) produce the lift

I used to think that petrol was car food to make it go faster. And if you didn't feed it it would die and never work again.

I used to think that people who were speeding past a speed camera would have to cover their faces with their hands so the speed camera would not recognise them.

I used to think every family had a car and a truck since that's what we had. I had no idea why people would borrow trucks.

When I was a kid, I always heard the phrase "don't drink and drive".
I thought it was because if you had a few drinks of alcohol while driving, it would instantly make you drunk beyond all reason.
I thought there was something that happened when you combined driving with a few sips of booze.

I used to think that the slippery road sign was a ski hat - the tires and wavy tracks were ear flaps with the strings hanging down. I thought it meant to be careful driving when it was cold out.

When I was little I believed that a car's turn signal operated all by itself. Whichever arrow was blinking you HAD TO turn that way. You must not disobey! And if you were running late for something and the car told you to go a different way, you'd just be out of luck. (Apparently it escaped my notice that the driver flipped a lever right before making the turn).

When I was little, somewhere between four and six, I watched a cartoon which had the line "There's a short circuit at the substation! That's why the traffic lights aren't working!". I didn't know what a short circuit or a substation was, but thought that substations were something that somehow made traffic lights not work. One time, my mother and I were passing some traffic lights and I pointed at something and asked, "What's that?". She replied that it was a substation and I said, "but the traffic lights work fine."

When I was little I thought drinking and driving meant you couldn't drink anything while driving. So when I was little and I saw my mom drinking Pepsi while she was driving the car, I'd get very worried that she'd get arrested or we'd all get killed.

This train station that me and my mother used often when I was a young child had a small shelter, this shelter had a barred door for security, however, when I was little, I thought the train station had a jail cell for people who were had at the station.
