I used to believe…
When I was a kid, I watched a lot of Star Trek. So, to me, it seemed perfectly plausible that a man in an invisible bubble was sitting above each and every intersection, waiting for cars to show up so he could change the color of the lights.
I used to believe that the turn signal in your car would automatically go on whenever you were getting ready to turn. I couldn't figure out how the car knew you were about to turn. I finally concluded that you had to wave your hand to the side of the steering wheel to tell the car that you were going to turn, so it could turn on the little clicker thing. It wasn't until many years later that I realized that when someone was "waving" their hand beside the steering wheel, they were turning on the turn signal!

When I was little and we were going somewhere on a trip in the car. As we approached a stoplight, I actually believed there were little people inside the stoplights that would change the light when it was safe to change it, LOL!!!!!!!!!!

When I was little I thought that my dad had the ability to guess when the traffic light would turn green. He would start counting down, "3... 2... 1..." and then almost every time the light turned green. I'd try to guess, too, but I was almost always wrong. It wasn't until I was about 12 that I realized that all you have to do is look at the light going the opposite direction, and start counting when it turns yellow...
I used to think trained mice were in traffic lights.I imagined a whole control room and mice wearing uniforms. I found out a couple years ago when i was 5 or 6 it was untrue. Im 11 now

When I was little I used to think the turn signals were the car giving you directions I always wondered how the car knew where we were going.
Funny how we have gps devices now that do this looks like I was a very forward thinking kid.

When travelling from the farm to the city or whatever in my younger days, I'd see the sign that read 'do not drive on shoulder' and I thought when the man was driving, the lady next to him could not put her head on his shoulder. Nobody told me, I figured it out many many years later.
Duhhh!!
I used to believe…
One day my dad was drinking water while he was driving. I thought it was illegal. It is stupid that they say don't "drin and drive", they should be more specific.

When I was little, I used to think car dealerships were circuses. The colorful balloons and inflatable animals were very misleading!

When I was in kindergarten and first started taking the bus, I imagined that the bus was living and all the people on the bus were its internal organs. I never thought about what happenned when the people got off though...
Oh, and the bus had a name too. It was Thump, so whenever we went over a speed bump I would say "Bumpitty bump there goes Thump!".

When I was little, I would observe the turn signals on the dash while my parents were driving, and used to wonder how the car somehow knew which direction we were going to turn! It took me a while to realize they pulled the lever on the other side of the steering wheel.

Ever since I was 2. I've been on a plane ride every year and moved houses every year as well. So one year we didn't do it. I though "We had bought them all"
I used to believe…
That cars drove themselves, and they were just for decoration.

When I was about 4, I used to believe that the handicapped signs were for people with really big butts. My Aunt was in a wheelchair and she always parked there, so I didn't know the difference until I saw someone who didn't have a big butt (but they were handicapped) park there and I proceeded to tell them that they were not allowed to park there BECAUSE they didn't have a big butt!

when i was a smaal boy, i used to think that the road had two lanes: one for people heading somewhere, and one for people going home. i'm still not sure i was wrong (philosophicly speaking)
I used to believe that when I saw the smoke trails from jets it meant that it was someone's birthday that day. I seemed possible since every time I was one it just happend to be someones birthday that I knew of. Perhaps becasue I was only paying attnetion when it was someones B-day. It never occured to me that thousands of people are born every day thus share the same B-day.
I always knew that the beeping noise traffic lights made when you cross the street was to alert blind people - but for the longest time i just assumed it was to warn the blind drivers so they wouldn't run anyone over!!
I used to believe…
When i first heard that my family used to carpool before i was born, i imagined a hot tub-like thing inside a mini-van. It didn't help that my brother, sister, and even mother reinforced this idea

I used to believe, while driving in a car, that we actually didn't move anywhere but the road and surroundings did!
