I used to believe that the reflective squares that you see in the middle of the road at night weren't reflective, but that there were people payed to stand down there and shine flashlights up through square holes in the road. I also thought another one of their jobs was to sit at intersections and watch what was going on above them via what i thought were cameras, but are actually the white flashing lights that flash when an emergency vehicle is coming. They would change the lights from red to green, and if they were having a good day, they would turn on the pedestrian light.

I never rode a taxi until I went to college. I always thought it was a cool car like a limo or something like that. When I called my first cab, I was disappointed to find out it was just a basic old car.

When we would be stuck in a long traffic jam on a highway I thought there must be someone VERY important at the front of this long line of cars and I just assumed that person was Abraham Lincoln.

You know how school buses have those signs that say "STATE LAW STOP (while bus is loading and unloading)?" I thought that the "STATE LAW STOP" meant that laws didn't apply when you rode the bus. I assumed that criminals rode these buses because they wouldn't be able to get in trouble on them. It seemed like I saw these buses a lot (logically, since they were dropping kids off from school every day). I always wondered why police officers didn't bother to chase them. The buses were full; the officers could catch a lot of criminals that way!

Until recently, I thought that hybrid cars weren't hybrid as in the fuel, but hybrid as in the car itself. I thought it could be like, half Jeep half Lexus or something...

I read the one about car signals and laughed b/c all the people there said they figured it out at five or six. Well, I never got to sit is the front until I was around 12, so I didn't pay much attention to the signals. So I was sitting in the front but I was still confused for a few months. I honest to god thought the car was psychic.

When you saw the road signs for how curvy the road was ahead, I use to think that would be the way you would go to heaven if you were killed between that point and the next one. The speed limit under those signs was how slow you would travel to heaven.

I imagined that the wavy power line shadows on the street were the paths that cars were supposed to drive on.

When i was younger i used to believe that when an airplane toilet flushed, it ejected the... waste... directly under the plane, hence the unbelieveable noise. Coming with this belief, i believed that if you sat on the toilet while you flushed, you could fall out through the toilet pipe. For these reasons, i always preferred to go to the toilet while we were flying over either the ocean or some unpopulated paddocks.

Only years later did i actually see sense that the airlines would not be allowed to do this. but that diddnt mean that i hated the noise any less.

my parents had us all believe that in order to change the traffic lights from red to green, we had to blow at them really hard and they would change. i have also instilled this into my kids , i find it sweet that they work so hard to keep our journey going - lets hope they aren't naughty like me though and blow them again when were through so that all the other cars are stuck there lol !

I used to believe people would get in trouble for driving in a county other than the one on their license plate.

I used to imagine that there was a room somewhere in the city I grew up in that had a huge map on the wall showing all the traffic lights, that each light had 3 buttons (red, yellow, green, of course) next to it, and that a man (ONE man) pushed the buttons at the right times to make the lights change.

When I was little I used to think that little garden gnomes worked underground with lots of big computers controlling the traffic lights.

It seemed like common sense to me.

When I was a kid we went on a road trip through the mountains in PA. All along the roads are road signs stating watch for falling rock. My dad told me and my siblings that the signs were there because along time ago when Native Americans lived there that there was on named Falling Rock. He was kicked out of the tribe for murdering the chief. After they kick him out they found out he didn't do it and went looking for him only to never find him. That is why the sign are there cause till this day he has not been found. Of course we believed him lol.

my dad told me that corn fields were grown from the airplanes... when they were done with the flight they would release all the poop from the plane's bathroom.. :( i didn't eat corn for a long time.

When I was little my dad told me that a little Leprechaun lived in the electrical box at the corner of every single stop light in the world. If they didn't like you or the car you were driving then the Leprechaun wouldn't change the light for you and he would make you sit there for a long time. So forever everytime i was in the car at the stop light I would pray that the Leprechaun liked me so we didn't have to sit there forever.
