When I was younger, i think until i was 8 or so, I had watched "I Love Lucy" at my grandma's house. They were jumping out of a helicopter with parachutes, and I somehow believed that the only way to get off of a helicopter was to jump out!!! I later learned that helicopters had to land eventually!

When I was a child, I believed that the tallest man in the world drives a mini, which had no front seats, i.e. back seats only.
I believed that till I was 25 years old.
I used to think that if you left a car running while it was parked (not moving), than it would blow up. My mom left me for a minute to run in the post office, and found me sobbing hysterically when she came back. She freaked out of course, but when I told her why I was upset, she busted out laughing. I remember having tears and snot running down my face and saying, "You mean it WON'T blow up?"

When I was a little girl, my mind was extremely confused with the system of traffic lights. Sitting at the back of our car and waiting for the green to move, I was constantly wondering how on earth those drivers were so sure about the fact that the light happened to turn to red on our side and how they managed to halt just before we passed across the road. This seemed something unbelievably hard to grasp until I got an explanation from my dad at the age of five. ...

when we went on long trips in the car and would bother my mom by saying , are we there yet, she would say , See the black stuff in the road? that is where Indians would scalp little kids who were not being good. Now shut up.
The thick black lines was just tar from paving the cracks in the road. It sure shut us up though.

While traveling from Germany to the USA, somewhere around Iceland, i looked out the window and the only thing out there were clouds. My mom spent about an hour trying to convince me that those were in fact clouds, and not snow - and no, you cannot get out and walk on that...
I used to believe that underneath the roads near traffic lights there were huge warehouses.
I thought traffic lights were worked the same way as ringing bells. Little elves lived underneath the roads and pulled the right coloured rope to change the traffic lights to a certain colour.
I thought I was going to grow up to be a traffic light elf!
i thought drinking and driving meant ANY drink and that it went for anyone in the car. one day, I asked my sister "are you not allowed to eat in the car either? 'cause i really wanna eat my McDonalds."

You know how signs pointing something in the direction of being right ahead have arrows pointing straight up? I thought that meant it was up in the sky and you had to make your car fly.
I used to believe…
As a child on long trips on the freeway I would see the signs that said "Wrong Way" and I always thought to myself "How the hell do you know where I'm going?"
Obviously, I figured these signs out by the age 10.... :)
i used to believe that there were little people working the trafic lights, and i thought that the speakers on the tv were mikes to talk to the people on the tv!! wow! i can't believe that i thought that! my mom and dad had a good time laughing at me tho.
I have no idea where I got this, but I heard somewhere that if you stood on the train tracks, you would not be able to hear the train coming. It still scares me to cross the train tracks, though I'll do it just to prove myself wrong. (I'm 21!)

I used to believe that by drinking juice in the back seat of my Mum's car while she was driving, we were committing a drink-drive offence!!

when i was little my mom told me that there were hampsters in the tires of the car and when you got gas that was hampster food. so i would picture the food dropping down on a string and the hampster would chase it and the car would move. she also told me that we would get a flat tire because the hampster died. nice mom.

When I was little I believed that some teenager would change the trafic lights while reader comic books.
I used to ask my mom, "How do they make people small enough to fit into airplanes?" Apparently I had some depth perception issues when seeing a plane in the sky. It wasn't little.. it was just far away!

When we went to the city centre by bus, we made the return journey from a different bus stop to that at which we'd arrived. So I thought we went back to a _different_house_ that was somehow arranged to resemble the house we'd left earlier.
