When my parents were driving, and I was in the passenger seat, I believed that we were actually colliding with everything I could see in the windshield. I just couldn't feel it.

When I was a child I thought the road sign "pass with care" meant the people that lived in the houses there were really poor and we should take the time to care, not just drive right by.

When i first moved to London when i was little, My mum told me that all the screeching and scrapping noises the tube train made was people who had got hit by a train's bones grinding on the rails! I stayed well away from the yellow line because i didnt want my bones grinding on the rails for all eternity!

I thought that if you were speeding and hit a speed bump, it would cause your car to fly into the air.
I used to believe that little men were inside stop lights, making them work. How else would the lights know a car was waiting?

When I was young I used to believe that "traffic light changer" was an actual occupation, and it involved sitting in a little office underground at an intersection, with something like a submarine telescope which stuck out of the ground above you so you could watch the traffic and know when to switch the light from red to green.
A few years went by, and I explained my theory to my dad, who then proceeded to enlighten me, that they actually worked by laser beams that shoot lasers down the road that count how many cars are there wating, so they know how long to hold the lights for.
Thanks dad.

When I was a child I believed that the indicator for the temp. of the car was actually the temp. of the key. Based on the illustration of the thermometer I thought it was a key.

I used to think that so-called "speed bumps" were a waste of time, because if anything, I thought, they slow you down.

When I was younger growing up, there was a rollercoaster park named Cedar Point. Well the drive was 3 hours and as we approached it I would see signs "Cedar Point 3 miles" and even closer yet there would be signs that read "Cedar Point Left" and that sign always made me think that Cedar Point moved or left somewhere else and I was always disappointed.

When I was young (4 or 5) I used to think that gas stations that had Full Service would give you a "Happy ending" after filling up your tank. This explained to me why my uncle would only go to gas stations that had Full Service.

When a friend of mine moved to the US from India, he thought that the 'Haz Mat' signs on trucks carrying hazardous materials meant that you could not laugh if such a truck passed by, or while looking at the truck (Huz - to laugh, Mut - not, in Hindi).
Then I pointed out to him the seeming double negative in the 'No Haz Mat' warning signs on roads leading to tunnels, etc...
I don't remember how old I was, or even what we were doing. I figure we were probably driving home from out of state, because it was very late and I had blankets. We had to meet up with someone to "jump" our car which had died. I was puzzled when my dad told me I didn't have to get out. I thought "Isn't it dangerous to be in here while that car's jumping us? I mean.. it might fall on us!"
I used to think in stoplights little people were in there changing the lights. I thought that untill about 11 years old then I said to my mom " Wow that person must be small to fit into thst little light ". LOL my mom STILL makes fun of me!!
I used to think that if I sit behind the driver in a car, I wouldnt be able to see anything and the door would fly open and I would fall out of the car and get run over by cars coming the opposite way!
I have no idea where this stems from, but ive believed that for as long as I can remember. I still cant sit behind a driver, I refuse to get in the car, but when im driving myself its ok ... as im in control of the car so nothing bad will happen to me. Go figure.

Whenever my family took a drive, I always wondered how the traffic lights knew what to do. My theory was that a man with a huge control panel was hisdden in the bushes watching and pushing just the right buttons. =)
