My family has always travelled a lot, and airplane trips were fairly common but still a big deal. I'm not sure why, but I decided that airplane tickets were just about the most expensive things you could buy, costing several thousand dollars. It never occurred to me to wonder why, if they cost so much, we took so many plane flights.

When I was a child, whenever we went on the highway my dad would tell us to roll up the windows (to prevent the loud sound from the wind rushing by). Because he always said this, without fail, I developed the idea that having your windows rolled down on the highway was illegal.

When I was about 6 I believed that traffic lights were controlled by men who worked underground in a darkened room with stone walls and floors. The men would make the lights change by pulling on the appropriate string, which dangled from the ceiling.
i thought that the train running behind my house would come off the track and run into the house if i didn't wake up and stand on the couch looking out the window screaming at the top of my lungs... mom and dad were glad we moved from that house
I heard that my father's car had been stuck (in traffic) on the freeway. For years, as a child, I thought that if the car drove over the "cat's eyes" or "white bumps" that separate lanes, that your tires might stick to them - holding you still on the road.

When I was little and went on road trips, I would pass those electrical boxes on the side of the road, you know? They're grey and metal. Well, I used to think that to make the traffic lights change colours, little Keebler-elf like people would sit in there with a periscope and watch traffic, and when it would get busy, they would change the light from red to green.

When I was REALLY YOUNGE, I thought that the driver and person closest to the other door on the front put thier feet through holes and pushed the car forward like that and they lean to the side to turn... o_O boy, was I wrong...
i used to think that airplanes are able to break through the atmosphere and enter outer space, but one i learned more about the atmosphere, airplanes, and space ships, i finally learned of two words- "vacuum" and "airlock". i was pretty stupid.

I used to believe that when you stuck your hand out of a window of a moving car that something would come and hit it and your arm would come off.

At age five I used to think that unless one of the windows was rolled down, everyone in the car would suffocate within minutes. I would always keep my window open (even in winter) and think smugly about all the times I had saved my mom, dad and brothers' lives.

When I was little I used to believe that cars drove themselves.
I used to believe that if i sat ontop of the car, the roof would cave in, and i'd find myself inside the car with a hole in the roof... Plus i was a heavy kid, so that did'nt help.
I still cannot come up with a reason why I believed this, but when I was little, I was convinced that it was illegal for children to ride in a car. So, one day, I solemnly promised my mom that if we were pulled over by the police, I would hide under the seats so the police couldn't see me. She stared at me in utter disbelief.
I used to believe that the cars in a junk yard went there to wreck. I actually asked my mom why they did this....of course, thats when i found out the truth...after much laughter at my expense. lol

When I was small, I thought that there was some sort of small creature that lived inside the traffic lights.he was the one that had to switch the lights on and off but he was alway trying to sleep so an alarm clock would go off to wake him up so he could change the lights

We could hear a train loud and clear (a couple miles away) at my aunt's house and I would stand along the back fence and look both ways across it to see where the train would come steaming through the yard.
