I used to think the 'turn left with care' sign at the corner said 'Turn left with car'. This seemed so obvious that having a sign about it seemed silly. Once I mentioned this fact to my mother in a world weary voice. She found that so funny it became one of her favourite stories to tell other adults.

I guess in the US and Europe that would be turn right...

I used to think that the little video cameras at traffic lights were used to see when to change the lights, and there were a bunch of guys under ground who controlled the lights. I would say to myself, "Wow, they stay up really late!"

My grandfather told me that if train conductors waved out their little windows their arms would get stuck and they would have to stay that way. Then we would wave at the passing trains, more often than not getting the engineer to wave back. I always felt a little guilty about making the poor guy be stuck, but that didn't stop me from waving.

I used to think that when you were ready to get on the plane, you would go outside and the plane would hover over the house and pick you up kinda like a taxi. The pilot would drop a big latter and you would climb on up :)

You know those warnings on the side mirrors that say "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear"? Well as a child I didn't really understand how to tell the difference between "than" and "then" and I thought the word "closer" meant that something was invisible. So, in my mind, those signs were saying that the objects were invisible and then suddenly they appeared. I always tried to catch the mirror when everything was invisible. I never quite did.

When I was little I used to believe that the reason seat belts in cars would cut out suddenly when you pulled them too quickly was so that when a robber tried to steal your car, it would slow them down when they were trying frantically to put their seat belt on and drive away!

When I was quite little (I am 15 now) I asked my mum what a certain button on the car did. She told me that it made the car fly into space. I never touched that button and then one day on a long car trip mum pressed it and I panicked! It made her confused until I told her what she told me. Then all she did was laugh. How gullible I was. She also did the same thing to me with a television remote. There was a purple button and she said it made the tv blow up. I never did touch that button...

When I was little I used to think that the word for "stop-light" was a** hole. thats because whenever we went to a stoplight it seemed that my mom always said that word. lol.

..that every boy/man had to have a traffic accident. And that it happened exactly one time in life. We lived with my mother's family and both her brothers had had theirs. So, every night I would pray that tommorow I would get done and over with *my accident*, and that it wouldnt be too scary!

I used to think that signs that said "Do Not Pass" on roads meant that you weren't allowed to drive past that point. I was always so worried that my mom would get pulled over.

I remember seeing a commercial often when I was 4 (now 24) that depicted a group of teenagers drinking something (that I thought was just pop at the time) while sitting in their vehicle. As soon as the driver turned on the ignition, all passengers and the driver turned into skeletons and a scary voice said "Don't drink and drive!!!". From that point on, I thought that if you drink anything while driving, you would turn into a skeleton! I finally got the balls to drink some pop in my parents' car to see if I would actually turn into a skeleton. I was scared as hell after the first few sips but after a while, I realized that I wasn't really going to turn into a skeleton. Looking back at this moment just made me realize how dumb some of those 80's public service announcements are. Skeletons??? LOL!!!

I used to think that traffic lights were controlled by a man sitting in a little control booth in the park. He would decide when to switch the lights and would always watch traffic to know when to change it.
