My dad had an Oldsmobile that had metal lettering installed on the trunk lid from the dealer, Something like "SamSmith Buick - Oldsmobile"
So I thought my dad drove a "Buick Oldsmobile" for the longest time. After all, the metal plate was designed to resemble a car logo.
Ironically, when I grew up I once owned an Oldsmobile that developed that problem with the ignition way inside the steering column, so I got another column from a wrecking yard... Out of a Buick.
I used to believe that traffic lights were controlled by people that were kept in the telephone poles on the corners of the street.

Stop lights had sensors that knew when cars were coming or not~that's how they turned red/yellow/green.
I was told by my friend that the trail behind an airplane was the extra ice that they had on the flight and they threw it out the window and it froze there. He was into science and owned a telescope, so I naturally believed him because no one else I knew owned a telescope. I figured he actually saw them throwing out the ice.

When I was young, I believed that all of the lines on the roads were painted by one man with a wide paint brush. I imagined that he must have had a little wagon which carried his paint can and ruler. Since I lived in West Texas at the time, and traveled to visit my grandparents in the mountains of Colorado, I thought that was the loneliest and most dangerous of jobs.
I used to believe…
When I was a little kid, I thought that traffic lights were controlled by toucans (like Toucan Sam from Froot Loops). I thought that there was a toucan in each and every traffic light and that there was a candle set behind each color of the lights; red, yellow and green. So, the toucan would light the appropriate candle and blow out the other candle when the time came.
And those flashing lights... Or when a traffic light was broken and just the red light or just the yellow light would be flashing... Well, I thought that was because an evil Keebler Elf had made his way into the traffic light and was repeatedly blowing out the toucan's candles.
I used to believe…
My parents had automatic locks on our car when I was a kid. I would ask for the window to be opened and magically it would roll down. Instead, it was my mom and dad rolling down the window with the button.

Up until my late 20's I thought Amtrak was owned by Amway. I grew up in Amwaylandia, you see, and everything was owned by them. I mean, the big hotel in town was the Amway Grand Plaza, so why not Amtrak?
I used to believe…
every time we went to the car wash i would scream and cry as we entered the jaws of a gigantic monster. i would squeel as the soapy flaps beat against our car as we were being digested. when we emerged on the other side we entered a brand new world. a whole world comprised of all the buildings and roads and people who, like myself, had fallen victim to the appitite of this beast.

You know those signs that appear 10 meters before the turning? When I was little I thought that you had to turn exactly where the sign was - only there never seemed to be a road!
