My babysitter told me that I had to sit in a car seat so the police could see me. If I was down too low, they couldn't see me if the drove by or we got in an accident. I believed that for the longest time! When I was older, and finally got to sit normally in the car, I asked my mother, "Am i really tall enough for the police to see me?" She was very confused until I told her what my babysitter had said. then she explained the real reason for car seats. I was so embarassed!

My father was a gunner on B-52's from my birth to age 25. At age 3 we lived in Guam, and for some reason I believed B-52's flew so they could drop cheese off at your house in your chimney or roof.
I used 2 believe that you could legally exceed the speed limit by upto 10 miles per hour while over taking another vehicle on a county road. I thought that becoz my father, while driving in the country usually sticks to the speed limit except when overtaking another vehicle and besides when you travel a little faster while overtaking, you will have to spend much less time in the oncoming lane.

One morning when I was four my father left to catch a train into the city for work. He returned a short time later because the trains were not operating that day. My mum then told me that there was a 'train strike'. This was the first time that I heard the word stike (where you stop work to protest for higher pay and or better conditions), I actually thougth of the word 'stripe'. Being very young I had no idea what a strike was so I pictured all of the trains in the city being covered in black stripes (such as being tagged with graffiti) and infested with nasty black vines which made them unsafe for taking passengers during the strike.

When I was four I thought that the only purpose of traffic lights are 2 annoy the bloody hell out of people. At 1st I did not realise that traffic lights are suppose to 2 make intersections safe.
i used to think that traffic lights were controlled my little smurf kind people who used to live inside there. and if the light was really long it was because they forgot. they would shine there flashlights over colored see-through paper colored red green and yellow.

My mother when she was 7 or 8 yrs would be in the car near her school waiting for her brother.( He would make my mother wait while he did some grocery shopping). She would scare her classmates saying that she would start the car & run over them( obvioulsly there wouldn't be the ignition key). The poor kids would run for their lives. She tells me she has done it many times!

My brother was 3 when I was a frechman in college. One time when I was home visiting for the weekend, he asked me why I never brought my school bus with me. When I told him I didn't have one he answered that my mother had told him that I lived in a school bus. We later figured out that when he would ask my mom where I was she would tell him I was away at school. And since my sister (who was in high school) took a bus to and from school, I must just live on one! We still tease him about that one.

When I was young and riding in the car with my parents I would see signs at the beginning of streets that said "No Outlet". I used to wonder how the people lived on the streets without electricy.

We used to believe that if we held our arms straight out the car window, like wings, we could make the car fly like an airplane. Now if dad would drive just a LITTLE bit faster... Or maybe if we flapped our "wings" like birds...
I always thought that the cruise control actually DROVE the car for you. Steering and all! I always wondered why my parents were "pretending to drive" even when they put the cruise on.

When I was younger, it was quite an ordeal for my parents, having 3 kids each 2 years apart. So, when getting in or out of the car, my parents would have us hold onto the car so it "didn't roll away". The real reason being that they didn't want us to run into the traffic. So, when my dad was driving me to school and he'd start the car and realize he forgot something in the house, he'd leave the car idoling and run inside for a minute. I'd burst into tears because I was buckled and couldn't get out. I was afraid the car would roll away with me in it. I was always SO relieved when he came back. I still to this day always make sure that the Ebrake is ALL THE WAY UP!!

My sister used to believe that when you rolled the window down in the car, it literally 'rolled' up into a tube.

my mums boyfriend got banned for drink driving - i immediately had a picture in my head of him drinking a 2 litre bottle of lemonade whilst driving his car. im dumb!!
I use to believe that my mom could change he traffic light by blowing on it. I guess she had really good timing. Then I realized that she didn't do it when we were in a hurry and figured it out, but it would be cool if we could!
I was sure that the "Windshield factor" was the tempurature on your windshield when you were driving. Once I learned it was 'wind chill' factor, i realized i wasn't too far off.
I used to believe that cars were fueled by peanutbutter, because one time on Magic Schoolbus, this dude lost a sandwich in the gas tank or something, and the peanutbutter was going through like gas, and making the bus work ... at least that's how i remeber it.

My Dad always said he had telepathy for when lights would turn green. I could only come to the conclusion that he did actually have superpowers...not actually some genius idea to look at when the other light turned red.

When I was growing up, I loved to play with gadgets and electronics. The motorized rear view mirrors that you could control with a small joystick in my Dad's car were a favorite to mess around with. He got fed up with me and told me there's another way to move the mirrors by pressing the Saab emblem on the front of the glove box. After he secretly moved it when I pushed it about 5 times, he stopped and said I must have broke it.

when i was little i used to think that the turn signal had a mind of its own and would automatically turn on (tick...tick...tick) and direct my mother to drive in certain directions. interesting.
