I used to believe…

Anytime anyone said we were "going over a bridge", I would freak out. I thought we were going to drive over the metal frame of the bridge, like a rollercoaster.

I used to believe…

As a child, I believed that traffic lights were controlled by an elaborate underground operations center (picture, if you will, any NASA footage of `ground control� during the 70�s). In my mind, this amphitheatre-like operations center was filled with long rows of workstations, at which there were monitors and many blikenligths and buttons. These workstations were staffed by men with slicked-back, salt n� pepper hair, who held clipboards and wore lab coats and black, thick rimmed glasses. Each traffic signal held a camera and when enough cars had gathered, the man in white coat, responsible for that particular intersection, would change the lights and give the waiting drivers their chance to pass.

I used to believe…

When I was younger, I used to believe that stoplights were controlled by gnomes that lived in the stoplights. They would use different colored flashlights and flick them on and off so that cars could go by.

I can remember driving down the road with my family, when i was very young. I panicked, and asked my dad to turn around quickly, in the car. When he asked why, I stated that the sign on the side of the road said "DO NOT PASS". I thought it meant not to pass the SIGN! :) : ) :)

There was a draw bridge we would drive over all the time, and at one end there was a big rotary. So everytime we went over the draw bridge I would see the big "Rotary" sign. I thought for many years "Rotary" was some strange term for "Draw Bridge". I was terrified of draw bridges, so seeing "Rotary" (there are a lot of those here!) just made me panic.

When I'd see the ads for Greyhound on TV that said "Go Greyhound and leave the driving to us." I thought that meant that on other busses the passengers had to take turns driving.

When I would see ads for "non-stop" flights on TV, I thought that meant the planes did not stop anywhere once they took off. When you got over your stop, you had to parachute to the ground. I really didn't get why this was a such a great thing. I'd rather be on a plane that was going to stop before I had to get off!

when i was younger, i used to think the "DO NOT PASS" signs meant you couldn't go past the sign and i always wondered why mom would keep going. i thought she would be pulled over or something. then when she didn't, i just guessed that she got lucky because there weren't any cops around.

When I was younger, and watched old movies of people driving cars and moving the steering wheel left and right rapidly, I beleived that the faster they moved the wheel the faster the car actually went.

When I saw signs on the road that said "Commercial Vehicles Only", I used to think (when I was younger) that only vehicles that were shown on TV could go down that certain exit/road.

when i was a child i used to belive while the train crossed the bridge on the river it would collapse, if i looked down from the window coz the train would be so heavy and would loose its balance

i used to believe cars has psychic powers. i remember those blinking green arrows always dictating which way the car would turn. i couldn't figure it out. now that i think about it, i was a complete numbskull. hahaha. :D

When I was like 3, I went to see Barney Live in Rockefeller Center. My mom told me we were gonna go through the tunnels. I imagined us crawling through a like pitch black touch tunnel. I fell asleep on the ride, so I was mad until I was like 10 because I thought I missed the fun!

When i was little we always used to pass this sign in our car. It was a big taco bell sign that said Exit Now! And i thought that you werent allowed to go there it was saying exit now! as your last chance to turn around before the police came after you.

when i was young, i used to believe that little elf men controlled the traffic lights, and when it seemed like you were waiting forever for the light to change to green, the men where on their lunch break.

When I was about five, a friend of ours took us in her car one day through a "ford", where cars drove through the water. After driving through it ourselves we sat in an adjacent field and watched all the cars driving through the ford, which really fascinated me. There was a road sign saying �Ford� as you drove up to it. After that, whenever I saw a Ford car showroom by the roadside, with the �Ford� sign, I thought that meant it was a ford as in an expanse of water.

My Uncle Ernie told me that he had an ejector seat in his car (the button for it was supposedly under the gear stick knob) and that if I mis-behaved, he'd eject me. This kind of worked against him though - I played up on purpose as getting ejected sounded like fun :)

I used to think the underground railrooad was actually a well built under ground railway system built by the blacks and abolitionists to escape the slave states under GROUND!!!
