When I was a kid . I believed there were men inside traffic lights who change the colors

hall of fame

i used to believe that the traffic lights had little monkeys inside, so they were in charge of changing the color of the lights =(

I used to believe for the stop lights to work there were trolls going up and down little stairs and they would change the colors of the light from green to yellow to red.

i used to believe that there was a man in the stoplight holding a flash light. that christmas, my mom saw my christmas list and asked me why i wanted a new flashlight and batteries. i said it was for the guy in the stoplight. then my mom explaned to meand i felt like a dope :-P

When I was about 6 I thoght on the the ^ sign when it turned green meant our car was suppose to fly upwards. I thought this for a couple of years until I realized it meant go straight

I used to believe…

Until recently, I believed that the mud shields under a car were the brakes!!! Like a bike, I thought that when the brake was pressed, the mud shields would push onto the wheel and stop the car. I only realised that they were not the brakes, when I thought to myself that I never see them moving!!! Duh.

When I was little my mom used to tell my younger brother and me that the car wouldn't start or go unless we had our seatbelts on. We believed this up until we were like 10 or 11. Fortunately though it always keeps us wearing seatbelts even when 15 years later we are now driving.

When i was younger my dad told me that if a red light seems to be taking a long time to press the garage door opener and it would make the light change... i believed him to cause every time her did it the light would change!

i used ot beleive that somewher a man was sitting with a clicker and would clicka red button for the light to turn red,a greeen so the light woold turn green,a nd a yellow so the light would turn yellow. i also remeber beliving htat he would always know if someone were ina urry and hit hte red button just to tick them off.

I was always too short to properly see out the windows of the car, and wasn't allowed to sit in the front, so I never saw out that way either. Now, have you ever seen a movie that shows a person driving down a perfectly straight stretch of road while turning the steering wheel madly back and forth? These two things in combination led me to believe, for a while, that whatever let the wheels of the car turn wasn't really connected to anything. They just sort of floated around by themselves, and you had to turn the wheel in order to keep them pointing in a straight line so the car would stay on the road.

When I was in elementary school, (before I knew the concept of so many feet equaled a mile), I always thought that a mile was the distance between 2 road signs. So, when I figured this out I thought I must be traveling lots of miles, even though I was only going to school.

I used to believe that cars were just like people, in the fact that the front of the car looked just like a person, with the eyes being the lights and the grill being its mouth. Each car seemed to have a different look to it, so I thought that each person in the world had a car that looked just like their face or personality.

I used to believe…

while riding with my parents when i was 13 or 14, my father told me that if you are stuck at a red light and it seems to be taking too long all you have to do is 'honk twice and go!'. He said as long as you 'signal your intentions' it wasn't against the law. A year after obtaining my driver's license I drove my father to work and proceeded to 'honk twice and go' through a red-light...my father laughed so hard he couldn't breathe when i told him i'd been 'taking his advice' for a year!

I used to believe that under every traffic light at an intersection, there was a police man in an underground room, turning the lights green when there were over 5 cars waiting, and red when there was noone.

i thought that there were people with binoculars on every corner that had remote controls that changed the traffic lights but they wouldnt change the light until you gave them the secret sign so at every corner i would shoot the traffic light with my hand and if the little people saw me they would change the light

On subway platforms in NYC, there are these bright orange bars painted near the edge of the platform to warn you to stay back. My mom once told me that if i step on that bar, i'd get run over by the train. So natuarally i rationalized that there was a very small but very dangerous train which would run your foot over if you stepped on this bar.

I used to believe that there were little men inside the stoplights at intersections and would operate them.

I used to think that planes would turn into little chairs that flew around, only holding one person at a time, but when I got on a plane for the first time, I was so scared that all of those people would be forced onto a little chair!

When I was little I used to believe that cars knew exactly where you wanted to go, ant the blinkers were to give you directions. I think this stemed from my grandma letting me sit on her lap and steer for a while. I guess I didn't see her turn on the blinker!!!!

I used to like to watch Laverne and Shirley when I was little. In the opening credits, it showed them working in some kind of bottle factory, and one of them would stick there glove on a bottle as it passed through the factory (does anyone remember this?) Well, when me and my sister were little and fighting over something in the car, my dad would say, "give me that, I'm putting it in the glove compartment". I used to cry and get totally freaked out because i thought the glove compartment was where Laverne and Shirley worked and that I would never see my toy again.
