I used to believe…

My mom would tell me to stay off the railroad tracks because the trains were silent and super fast.

I use to believe those plastic bins that people put on top of their cars were Big Mac containers from McDonalds. I would always want one of those giant Big Macs

I used to believe that the No Passing signs meant that you couldn't pass the sign like into the field or something.

I used to think that the side of the road that i was driving on to go somewhere meant that everyone else was going away from their homes and going somewhere too. And the other side of the road that i wasn't traveling on meant everyone was going home from being somewhere else.

i used to believe that there were highways in the sky with robots and everything so that planes woldn't crash into one another

I used to believe…

As a kid I refused to get on a plane annoying my Mum and Dad. Eventually they asked me the problem. It was obvious to me - once the plane took off you got smaller - and I wanted to get bigger not smaller.
I didn't catch onto perspective until a few years later!

I used to believe…

While on vicodine and a an overseas flight I was sitting next to a lady. I was in a lot of pain from a facial surgical procedure and I told her I was going to take a little nap. I was out like a light and when I awoke (4 hours later) she said she wished she had whatever it was that I was taking. Then she asked "do you see the moon out there"? I looked out the window and said "no, but I see some kind of light close to our plane". She asked where I saw the light and I pointed to it asking what or where it was coming from. She said she saw the light but didn't know what it was. I got up and took a closer look and asked if she were sure she didn't know what it was. She assurred me that she did not know. I panicked and called for the attendant. I said that there was an object flying very close to our plane and I wondered if it were a UFO. Other people started to get up and one person said "those are the landing gear lights on the wing of the plane"

I used to believe…

When I was little, I always thought that when ever the car would stop (at stop lights) that mom or dad were just letting the car rest.

I used to believe…

Not my belief, but as a kid in pre-war New Guinea, aeroplanes were about the only way of getting around, so even the tribesmen were used to them, even if their silly white owners hadn't taught them to flap their wings properly like other birds, which they were naturally assumed to be. But as roads started to be built, and motor vehicles arrived, the locals were terrified. Anything that moved was obviously alive, and while aeroplanes had quite acceptable wings like birds, something that moved on the ground without legs must be very bad witchcraft indeed.

I used to believe…

Even as a little kid in prewar New Guinea, we flew almost everywhere as there were no roads or other connections. Getting off the ground never worried me, but I couldn't work out how we landed, as my own landings off the high verandah at home were minor disasters, and planes were much higher. Then one day we were landing at the mining town of Wau, and I looked out the window to see we seemed to be running down a hill. That explained it - the pilot looked for a high hill, and just ran down the side of it! I was telling this story 40 years later to be told by my Uncle, who also lived in Wau that there actually was a hill at the end of Wau airstrip, and far from being a landing aid was a darn nuisance to pilots.

I used to believe up until the age of around 9 that when a plane took off there was a ramp at the end of the runway, and if it didn't go fast enough it'd just fall off the end of the runway and crash.

I used to believe…

Maybe it was because I used to play with Hotwheels when I was little, but I always thought that cars were puched by Adam and Eve and the angels, who were all invisible. Gasoline and engines never entered my mind. And why Adam and Eve? Who knows.

I used to believe that cars are like us humans. With feelings and thoughts in their 'mind'. I would look at a car [for eg. a squared old car] and classify it as vintage and immediately i would think of old people. Whenever i see real cool cars [like Ford convertible] the image of handsome would appear. I, too usd to think that the cars will compete for the best like us humans. Wild eh? My dad knew of this belief of mine, so he would ask for my opinion before buying a new car. What do you know? I guess this belief was some good after all since i now have a 'honest-looking' car...
