I used to believe…

When we used to go on holiday, I used to think that all the cars in the same lanes as us were going to the same place and always asked if there would be room for us when we got there!!

hall of fame

I used to believe that there was a little man sitting in the traffic light box with a big switch that made the lights go red, green etc. !!

My sister used to think that the road outside our mom's office window had a car factory on each end, just out of view. All the cars on the road were made in one of the factories, only to be driven past the window to the other one, which took them apart. She knew the factories were specially placed so you couldn't see them but she'd still make herself crazy trying.

As a little boy crazy about cars, i always wondered why cars had their engines in the front and only the VW beetle made sense to me because it had its engine in the back. after all an engine MUST be ib the back to "push" the car just as i push my toy model cars from the back.

I pointed out a smoke trail to my older brother and asked him what it was. He told me it was an airplane. From then on, I refused to sit in the back of a plane, thinking that the plane would slowly evaporate into the air working from the back forward. I thought my best bet to arrive in one piece was to sit in the front. I still do!

I used to think that America was the only country that had cars.

i belived that there was a little man in a traffic light somewhere and he was a Great Ruler of All Traffic Lights.
so whenever he pressed a green button in his traffic light somewhere, all the traffic lights in the world would go green etc...

I used to believe…

the left/right arrows on stop lights were for cars to go sideways. I always asked can we get a car that gos sideways so we could go when the left/right arrow lit.

"soon as you invent such a car, we will have it." Dad told me.

BOY do I have a bunch of freaky looking lego cars now!!!

I used to believe…

At the entrance to the tunnels around Pittsburgh there is a sign that says "Do not cross center line." I used to think that the line ran horizontally across the center of the tunnel and always wondered why cars kept zooming through and crossing that "center line" when the sign told them not to. I still remember my feeling of amazement when it dawned on me that the center line divided the tunnel into two parallel lanes.

I used to believe that the reflector lights dividing lanes on roads were so blind people could drive. I thought when they drove slightly out of the lane the tires would bump over the reflectors and they'd know to straighten the car.

I used to think that a company had boats all over the world making waves, and airplanes making clouds

I used to believe that a driver changed lanes because there was a sign or signal that told him he had to do it just then and just there. I think I was 5 when I realized that my father was changing lanes at his own discretion.

I truly thought that 'drinking and driving' was any drink. it was fair enough, i thought, as if you drink a bottle of water, as it starts to get empty, you have to tilt your head back (and therefore, take your eyes off the road). i never once thought it was alcohol related till i reached about 11.
i thought i had it all worked out :(

i used to believe the turning signals on cars helped them turn sharp corners.

I used to believe that when you flushed the toilet on an airplane, it immediately dropped out of the bottom of the plane and onto whatever unsuspecting person there might have been on the ground below us. This caused me great concern, as I figured at any moment I may to be sucked out of the plane and fall to my death as well.

I used to believe…

When I was little I used to believe that cars were magical and the turn signals would blink to tell you which way you needed to turn to get to where you were going...I never realized that you had to make them blink yourself.

For the longest time I always thought that the road signs alerting you to a winding road ahead (with the car and the windy marks behind its tires)... meant watch out for drunk drivers. I couldn't figure out how they knew that there would always be drunk drivers in that area, and whenever we passes a car I always help my breath and hoped that it wouldn't run into us. I didn't figure the sign's true meaning until I took my drivers training course at age 15!

I used to believe…

As a child (from the U.S.) I went on a trip to Europe with my family. While in Italy, I was disappointed that I never got to ride on one of the the tiny buses that I was expecting them to have there. Later I figured out how I got misled. I had heard someone say that Italian Greyhounds were much smaller than familiar Greyhounds. But what I figured out only later was that they were talking about dog breeds, not buses!

I used to believe…

When my family used to drive to my aunt's house, there would always be this billboard with a pool that I was convinced looked like a shell. with a toothpick that had an olive stuck to it sticking out of the middle. Every time we passed it, I would scream "SHELL!!!" My parents had no idea what I was talking about and one day they took me to a Shell gas station and said "THAT IS A SHELL."

I believed that when driving on the highway.....everyone driving in the direction we were going to get somewhere else was also going somewhere else, and everyone going in the opposite direction was going home.
