I used to believe that when you flew in an airplane, and looked down, you would see the states outlines just like on a map.

I was around 6 while driving in the car with my mom, dad and little sister. I remember seeing a car go by and I said hey, that car's a "Grand Prix" only I pronounced it "Pricks". My mother didn't miss a beat and proceeded to tell me about penis's etc. I was so mortified that I just shrank back into the seat and waited for her to finish.

Uno that strange whirring sound you hear in a car as it reverses? I use to believe that it must of been something winding up, i guess i thought so because of those little toy cars, and because of that i thought a car could only wind backwards until the spring could wind no more. Then you had to go forward! I can still remember wondering what diasters could be if you just keep on reversing!!!

I never understood the "wrong way" signs on roads. How could they possibly know you were going the wrong way if they didn't know what your destination was?

I used to believe…

up until i was 6 years old or so i thought the highbeams light on cars looked like a pie being thrown. so that when some1 got mad (and in real life flashed someone with there highbeams) when that light lit up we threw a pie at them some how

My sister pointed at a car with a bug cover, which may also be known as a bra, and leaned over to me, got all up in my face and said "Hey Kevin, if you crash in a car with one of those on it, you AUTOMATICALLY DIE!!" I believed her until I was about 12 and I figured out that my sister was a liar.

When I first heard the saying "don't drink and drive," I thought that went for any drink. I thought "then why are there even cupholders in cars?!"

I used to believe…

When I was younger, I used to think the window defroster button looked like a basketball hoop. Therefore, I assumed that pressing it would lower a little basketball hoop that you could play with if you were bored. I told this to my dad, and he told me it was true, and that the basketball hoop comes out of the rear-view mirror.

I used to believe…

When I was about 5 or 6, I thought the turn signals in the car went off because, the car knew your destination, and was giving you directions. I asked my mom how it knew and she told me that "she tells it" meaning that she sets the turn signal off. I, however, thought this meant that someone actually told the car when we got in where we were planning on going. Since I never caught anyone saying "Car, we are going to the grocery store" or whatnot, I assumed the car listened to our conversations as we entered, and from that inferred where we were trying to get to.

As a 3 year old, I always believed that the little "no right turn" signs on traffic islands meant "no boomerangs". Being from Australia, this seemed perfectly logical until I was about five or six and my dad explained what they really meant.

I thought the lines in the sky left behind by airplanes were "sky scrapers". Makes sense.

When I was a kid I used to think that the traffic lights were controlled underground by people in underground offices.

I used to believe that there were little people in the stop and go lights controlling them

i used to think that aircraft carriers were a type of helicopter. when told that we were going to go on an aircraft carrier i was very dissapointed when i discovered that it was just a ship.

When I was younger I thought that in traffic lights were men who pushed the different colored lights.....

My ex-boyfriend used to believe that his dad had a "Turbo Boost" button in his car. They'd be going down the road and his dad would hit the "Turbo Boost" and they'd go really fast. When he grew up he realized it was just the emergency flashers.

I used to believe that a car needed some ongoing fire to make it go...maybe from hearing about spark plugs? If the fire got out of hand it could cause the car to catch fire, like a lady who drove up to our house with a fire under her hood one day. I was worried about car fires for quite some time.

I used to believe that car seats and playpens were for problem children to keep them confined. My mother had four children and never had a car seat or play pen for any of us. Even when my brother was born in 1965 seven years after me, she didn't see the need for them. Incidently he almost fell out of our 1963 Oldsmobile, when he was sitting near the door and it came open. I jumped up from the back seat (not seatbelted in) and grabbed him! He
was around 6-8 months old.
