When I was little, I thought that three little men would control the traffic lights; one in the red light, one in the yellow light and one in the green light.
I used to believe that when we drove through the rain at night, a monster would climb on top of our car. And when we stopped at a red-light, he would get ready to attack, and only green-lights saved us. I got really nervous when I saw yellow-lights, because I knew it was about to turn red. It never occured to me that someone would of course see a big, harry monster riding on the hood of our car and call the cops.

As a little kid, I thought that cars were living things because they moved and that made me think that they could go to the bathroom! I wondered "why don't I ever see cars going to the bathroom?"
I had some imagination.

Although I am too young to remember the old trams in Britain (except in Blackpool), my parents and I have been involved with the National Tramway Museum in Derbyshire for many years and I have been going there from an early age. When I was small I thought the tram drivers just had to turn the controller handle round and round as if it were a coffee grinder, and that the controller handle made the wheels go round and round. So whenever my parents got me to grind some coffee for them in the coffee grinder, I liked to pretend I was driving a tram!
I had a friend who told me that he used to think that the conveyor belt from which you collected your luggage at your destination was the same one that you put it on when you checked in. So presumably there must be an international network of conveyor belts either under the sea or up in the sky!

When I was little I found out what an electrical outlet was. SO when I was a little girls every time my mother drove by a street with a sign that said, 'No Outlet' I would cry because I felt bad that the people down that street had no electricy. 'No Outlet'

Like some others, the "No Passing" signs were confusing to me as a kid.
I thought you weren't supposed to pass that point.
Also, the "Pass with Care" signs... I thought those meant that you had to be careful because there was something really important there. Though I never really saw anything very valuable in those spots, I figured that there had to be something there. I guess I thought that the rest of the time you could drive recklessly because there was nothing important around to hit. Good thing I no longer thought this stuff when I got my license.

When i was younger, say about 5 or 6, i asked my father what thos bumps (reflectors) were on the road; he told me they were so that blind people could drive. Can you believe that i believed him?
I used to believe tiny people worked underground at stop lights, watching for cars coming and going. They were in charge of making the lights change color, watching through parascope like binoculars.
***I used to believe that everyone had to be in bed at a certain time at night and there was always someone who would get up first. and that person would be the first person to be the first one on the road and driving.

my mum once told me when i was about 6 or 7 yrs old, that if you were on an aeroplane an it was going to crash you had to put your slippers on and open the plane window , then hang one leg out of the window and you would get sucked out. i was terrified of flying for years after that and still think of it now when i have to go on a plane!! ( i`m 43 !!!)

When I was younger I used to belive that the price for a gallon of gas for your car was the price to fill your own tank. And every time someone would say that the price is expensive I thought that it was really cheap.
I thought railroad crossing signs were Pinnochio. On our way to a movie when I was 5 we got stuck by a train. That was when my mother decided to tell me we were going to see Pinnochio. I thought the sign was him until I was about 7 or 8. Whenever we went past that particular crossing I'd say "There's Pinnochio Mommy!!" and she wouldn't argue. Just smile and nod.
I used to believe there were tall skinny guys living inside traffic lights who would switch the different colours on and off, communicating with each other using radios. I also thought there was one guy who worked for the council who would walk around every evening, open up the covers on street lights with a giant set of keys and switch them on, and tick each one off on a clipboard.
I used to believe wen i wuz little that wen they called smaller vans a mini van, they meant "Minnie". So then i figured they must called bigger vans "Mickey" vans. (Like Minnie and Mickey mouse)

Well, you know those signs on the road meant for deer crossing, with the deer jumping against a yellow background? I used to think that all the deer would cross only at that sign ( much like humans and crosswalks) and I always wondered how the deers knew where to cross.

I used to believe that there was a tiny police man or woman inside of stoplights. They would tell the stoplight to change color's!

when i was around 3-5 i used to think that when the stoplights on streets changed, little mice inside with navy blue pinstripe overalls and red bandanas around their neck would change them....

When I was little I thought when you drove over a certain part of the road a certain song would play. Like there was a track or something your car drove on. I used to ask my dad to go back to where we were so I could hear that song again!

My friend (Heather) was and i just turned 17 so we went up to the goldcoast (i drove)
We had to go on a toll way. I only had large notes so i pulled into the "manual" service lane. We were about to go through a toll bridge when my friend read the signs above the two different lanes:
"automatic" and "manual".
"No No No! " she screamed, "we're in the wrong lane, your cars an automatic!"
Omigod, it was so funny, i told the toll booth man, and he started crying with laughter
