i used to think that the "BEE ALERT! ARRIVE UNHURT" signs on the highway meant that there were killer bee nests around that area and you should roll your car windows up so they didn't sting you in the face.

when i was a kid my mom told me that the reflectors on the road were for blind people. i belived her until i was 17 years old.

When i was little i was convinced that the street lights with two heads, like you get on motorways (in the UK) or on busy roads, were alive and could show their emotions. If both the heads were lit then the light was happy, if they were both unlit than it was sad, and if only one of the two was lit then it was happysad.whan my dad was driving down the road i would play a game with my mom to see how many i spotted and would have to say what the lights were feeling out loud as we passed each one. One time time all the lights on the motorway were only half lit and i went a bit mad just continually saying happysad(they are very close together so you can imagine how fast i had to say it).another time there was a power cut... I thought the world was coming to an end and thats why all the lights were sad and i burst out crying

I used to believe…

My bedroom window faced the street outside, and I thought that the cars that passed outside at night were driven by maniac people who had the power to know if I was still awake and moving around in bed , and that they would come deliberately plowing into the wall with the car if they sensed me. As long as the headlights didn't graze me I would be okay.

In our old car, there was a button that had a picture of little man on it, with little "air waves" near his feet.

This, of course, was the button to make the heat/air blow on your feet. But from far away, it looked like the hspe of a turkey. I thought it was the emergency turkey switch.

What would you use an emergency turkey switch for?

I used to believe…

When riding in our car I used to believe that the noises the car made when it went over a small series of bumps in the road was what those car commercials meant by "horsepower" because to me that sounds exactly like a horse running. To this day it reminds me of horses and how I used to think of that noise as the cars "horsepower."

I used to believe that traffic lights had little people who would hold torches up to the colored glass to change the light.

I used to believe…

When I was about 5 I thought little people hid inside stop-lights to turn them on and off. When I told my mom this, she looked at me like I was crazy then explained to me that it was on timers etc. I still didn't believe her for another year or two later.

I used to believe…

My sister and I used to believe that highways were required to have an exit each mile. It wasn't until we were well past driving age when we realized otherwise.

I used to think cars drove themselves and automatically knew when to stop at stop signs, which way to go, etc. (this was long before Knight Rider)

When there was a bit of turbulence I was told that the plane was bouncing on the clouds like a trampoline. I used to love aeroplane flights!

I used to believe…

my parents told me just before i went on my first plane ride that elephants flew behind the plane, pushing it along (Dumbo) and that i had to peddle to help them. When i boarded i paniked at the absence of footpedals and told a startled stewardess and a few passengers off for not helping the poor elephant. They also told me that the expression "paid peanuts" was what they gave the elephants in return for their services!

I believed that there were huge, invisible towers that people sat in and watched traffic lights and changed the signal when needed.

I used to believe…

When I was little, I thought the turn signal on the car was used in order to turn. When my mother didn't use it one time, I couldn't understand how she was able to turn into the parking lot.

When my sister was very small she used to think that the cats eyes in the road were actually little lights and that there was a little man who ran along in front of the car turning them on and another man who ran behind truning them off...classic!

I used to believe…

My sister believed that if a person was "Drinking and driving." that it was any drink, not necessarily alcoholic, and the reason why people swerved was because they had a cup or a bottle in their face, and couldn't see out of the windshield properly.

I use to be afraid of the Chrystler (I think...) logo because the pentegon was sectioned at each corner making it look like a bunch of pointed teeth that would bite your hand off.

I used to believe…

When I was little I always thought when you went to the bathroom on the plane, it just was a hole, and thats why we feel random rain drops sometimes. I used to use the plane potty and run to the window to see if I could see it flying in the sky!! And I cried when I got hit by that random raindrop cause I thought it was pee!
