I used to believe…

If we were ever driving and there were more cars going to opposite direction of us, than there were going to same direction, I would always think there was a Tyrannosaurus Rex where we were going and that's why everyone was leaving...

I used to believe…

When I was little my mom, brother, and I went to the store, and as we parked I jumped out of the car and ran around to greet my mom. Well it was a busy parking lot and she was mad that I would run out in the street...so as we were walking, I was holding my brother (6yrs older) and mom's hand and we passed an oil/grease spot in which my mother stopped and pointed to. She then told me that those were the markings of little kids who had run out in parking lots and got ran over and how sad the parents must be. My brother began to cry and I simply said "oh" as we were walking there was a large spot in which I shouted, "Look mama that must have been a big kid!!" I never ran out in parking lots again....

I used to believe that the road signs with an arrow pointing UP (as in up ahead) were actually pointing up to the sky. I wondered for many years how people were able to drive up into the sky!

When I was four I thought that you put one gallon of gas in a car so when my mom was outraged that gas was up to $2 I told her to just buy half a gallon then it will only cost $1

I used to believe…

My parents tried to explain to me what is a spark plug in a car. After that I believed that it's a candle because it ignites the fuel. And that if you open car's hood you may accidentally blow it.

When we went on a trip an it was raining, spark plug somehow stopped working when big truck splashed us with water. It was totally logical for me because i imagined little candle being doused with water.
Believed it for soooo many years.

I used to think that there were different sizes of commercial planes- very very big ones, medium sized ones, and very small ones. I could never figure out who could actually fit in the medium and small ones and why I never saw the very very big ones actually flying. It was a distance perspective thing that I didn't understand, the small ones were flying very high and the very very big ones were on the ground at the airport.

When I was little I thought there was some kind of electrical signal in traffic lights that stopped cars automatically when it turned red, and made them go when it turned green, and there was nothing the driver could do about it.

I used to think drinking and driving meant you couldnt drink anything and drive at the same time. I freaked out when my friend's mom was driving us and drinking coffee from a travel mug.

I used to think that the "lane merge ahead" sign was someone trying to paint the number 11 who just could NOT get it right. I also thought we took this Route 11 everywhere we went.

When I was little I thought "drinking and driving" meant drinking anything while drinking, so when my mom drank water or soda while driving I was so worried she would get in trouble and get pulled over by the police

I used to think "Don't drink and drive" included all beverages. I used to get really worried when my parents would have coffee in the car. I finally asked once and was told it was just coffee so it was okay but I didn't believe it.

When I was younger I used to believe that if I went on a boat and it sank only the cars would sink and we'd be happily sitting on the top deck when the bottom of the ship would be on the ocean floor.

When I was about four, I had never been on a plane before. I had heard about (and seen) stunt planes, but I thought that those planes were commercial planes that had passengers traveling on them. When I was six and went on my first plane ride, I thought it would go really fast, twist and turn, and do barrel rolls, and I dreaded that part of the plane ride. I was astonished when the plane traveled ridiculously slow and stayed right side up the whole time. Now I would love to be on a plane ride that feels like a roller coaster.

They were building a new road and round-a-bout near our house when I was little. I asked my dad when they were going to put the horses on. Having not had a car so not much experience with round-a-bouts my 4 year old self was convinced they were randomly place fairground carousels.

You know how some cars have wheels with hub caps, and you would see the black rim if you took the hub cap off? I thought someone told me that this rim was called a mud flap.

I later told this to one of my teachers, who had two wheels on her car with missing hub caps, and she finally told me what mud flaps actually are.

On the interstate some exits say "Exit Only." I used to believe that meant there was no entrance ramp back on to the interstate. If one wanted to return to the interstate s/he would have to go to the next entrance/exit. In other words, it was only an exit.

When i was little, i thought that the way stoplights worked was that when it was green, little aliens that glowed green would walk into the light and stand there, and when it was yellow, little yellow aliens stood in the middle, and the little red aliens stood in the top bulb.
